I could watch this all day long! 😍
I didn’t know otters wagged their tails when happy! 🥹
This Purple Gallinule looks like he's strutting through the lily pads, showing off his beautiful coloring!

No painting. No digital tricks. Just physics, timing, and the quiet power of the universe at work 🌌

Nature painted this moment itself, as charged solar winds collided with Earth’s atmosphere and unfurled the aurora into what looks like glowing wings across the night sky ✨

Goliath Heron perched in a tree in Kruger National Park. Goliath Herons are some of the largest flighted birds in the world, standing at more than 5 feet tall and with a wingspan of 7-8 feet. Long legs and neck!

Late night walks in the neighborhood can still have some good views. The original Christmas lights adorn the skyline along with the Big Dipper.

This draws me in...I'm transported to a happy place. There's just something about it. I could get lost in it. Thank you!
Hiking the Big Carp River Trail (North Country Trail) through old-growth hemlock and maple at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula for #ForestFriday!

Australia's iconic kingfisher.. the Laughing Kookaburra. Saw & heard lots but never close enough for that killer photo. A bit surprised to find them in the dense, wet forest of Dandenong Ranges as I thought they preferred drier, more open country #BirdingAustralia #kookaburras #kingfishers

Here's a pair of black-necked stilts enjoying a large muddy puddle created by a leaky fire hydrant. Taken 14 April 2024.

It's amazing to see what an incredible variety of birds we see here, and their beautiful colors. Thank you all for sharing these with us!
@robcrank68.bsky.social has set the alternate #BirdOfTheDay theme as #BirdsOnFeeders, so here's a beautiful painted bunting I saw a couple of weeks ago at the botanical gardens. 🎨🪶

"Yippee, I've got long legs!
I've got a long neck!
I can fly!"
Today's #birdoftheday theme set by @robcrank68.bsky.social is #LongLegsAndNeck.

🪶 Today's #BirdOfTheDay, per @robcrank68.bsky.social, is #LongLegsAndNeck. This heron is a new one for me, a bare-throated tiger-heron, that we saw in Turrialba, #CostaRica. #birds #photography

You were quick to get this great shot! Beautiful!
Another image of ibis vs magpie. Magpies are known to be aggressive during breeding season, but I couldn't see any nest or babies nearby. Surprised that the ibis stood its ground and took that abuse for a full five minutes. #BirdingAustralia #BirdingMelbourne #ibises #magpies

It's not exactly a flower, but this Grey-headed Swamp Hen is having a nice meal from the aquatic plants he's pulling up with his gigantic feet.

Like most #swans ,these guys need a lot of energy to get airborne. Once they have momentum and speed, air pressure will support some of the weight of the head and neck, but at slow speeds I wonder if those neck muscles get tired. #BirdingAustralia #BlackSwans #waterfowl

The commonest heron in both New Zealand and southern Australia ... the White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae). Really should be White-faced Egret. 😄 #BirdingAustralia #BirdingMelbourne #herons #egrets #waders
