Linked In tells me that someone from Madame Tussauds, Amsterdam, has been looking at my profile. Awks.

I feel your pain. Nothing has made me angrier than when my books were pinched.

Exactly. You can't base a business on someone else's free work. That's why creatives have unions. UK writers, your union is @writersguildgb.bsky.social

If actually paying artists for being original artists is going to bankrupt an industry then it deserves to be bankrupted.

Have a look online. You can check which books Anthropic has stolen, and put in a claim. It would have been better had they asked permission first, natch.

Nick might well know. Whether he cares is the question. But to quote a mythical nanny, don't care was made to care.

And let me add in helping themselves to creatìves' work without consent, AI is breaking both Copyright law and the Berne Convention. Or doesn't that worry you either, Nick?

Worse, it would kill our Creative Industries, which are our nation's soul, and bring £125 billion to the UK every year. Besides, the AI bubble is about to crash. And it's hard to take independent advice from someone who worked for Zuckerberg.

Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would ‘kill’ the AI industry

WGGB, as part of the Broadcasting, Entertainment and Arts Unions, stands in solidarity with journalists across Reach PLC facing redundancies announced by the publisher in September

Read the full solidarity statement 🔽
Yellow and blue graphic with title page - BEAU solidarity statement with Reach Journalists The Broadcasting, Entertainment and Arts Unions send a message of solidarity to journalists across Reach plc in the face of cuts announced by the publisher in September. Journalists at the company have proven their dedication, talent and passion time and time again, yet have been informed that across Reach, over 300 jobs will be cut with 600 journalists at risk. BEAU recognises the immense contribution of journalists and journalism in upholding democracy and is gravely concerned by recent proposals, even with plans to create some new posts. Journalists’ role in holding our politicians to account and scrutinising policies to ensure the public can make informed decisions whilst exercising their right to democratic participation must never be understated. As our unions stand in full solidarity with NUJ members at this time, we urge Reach to lead with greater transparency on its use of artificial intelligence both now and in the future, recognising that AI can never be a substitute for journalism.

This is a lie.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

Worth stressing that the budget for Broken Veil was £0.

The biggest challenge in planning it was how to make a full audio narrative show without taking advantage of the handful of lovely people we asked to help, or getting ourselves into serious debt.

That’s why winning a prize is lovely and mad.

Classy and poised. Haunted even.

Bagging a gong and a cushion. (Bronze for Best Fiction Podcast at the BPAs.)

Thanks to everyone who helped us make Broken Veil, and everyone who listened, in this reality or others.
