I really wish paying for an ad-free podcast subscription would feel like celebrating with parasocial friends your mutual delight in a beloved topic, but so often it feels like finally screaming, "UNCLE!" to the worst, most relentless schoolyard bully.

Easiest way to improve the theatrical experience is to increase staff and pay them better. But that is anathema to business geniuses and so everything will continue to get worse until the only theatres around are tiny art houses owned and operated by people who love movies more than money.
All of this money spent on this study and not a single mention of things that might keep people away: disruptive audience behavior, increasingly poor technical presentation, every shrinking theatrical windows (or day and date indies). I love theaters, and go multiple times a week, but it’s grim.
How Can Movie Theaters Fill More Seats Again? A Bain Report Shares Suggestions
"Audiences haven’t abandoned theaters; they need a more compelling reason to go," the consultancy highlights, sharing suggestions for how to bring fans back to the cinema in the post-COVID era.

I have complicated feelings about this. I want her to win and I will definitely vote/campaign for her.

But, as much as I hate to say it, a significant voting block (let's say the... older, more "traditional" demographic) of my great state despises her.

What I do for a living is bullshit. This is true.

TBH, I didn't know who Mr. Adams was before this exchange blew up, but I have started following him because he seems like an interesting fellow and he makes the world more interesting.

I honestly hope I don't get blocked for being an asshole.
To be clear: it's entirely fine if you think my work has no value. I probably think what you do for a living is bullshit, too. But if that's the case, I am happy to undo the mistake of following me in the first place on your behalf.

Awards and lists that pull exclusively from the same pool of 30 films that sent out fyc screeners are completely useless and might as well be compiled by distributors and their PR firms.
Always very appreciative of folks who say “wow! I’ve never heard of so many of these!” (positive) Because those are people who actually are curious and interested in culture. Occupational hazard is I don’t get to say that too much with movie lists and it makes me sad!
Year-end critics’ lists exist for people to fight over, so I’m happy when people complain about them. But the complaint I will never get is, “I’ve never heard of most of these movies/albums/shows.” Yes, and? Why be mad about learning about stuff you didn’t know before from the news?
