I agree with the Spike Lee take, that Ryan Coogler created a new genre with Sinners. It's like a cultural mythos movie. You aren't scared, but invested. Even the BBEG is layered in culture. There is gore and action but, to me, it's a story of cultural preservation.
But I'm an idiot, so who knows.

You're a fan of horror so you understand the subgenres. I should've been clearer in saying that it's not that it didn't give horror. I understand horror and it's definition lol. But In some circles I saw the movie getting a bad rep b/c of the sub genre of horror that included African spirituality.
