Hey, just to make it clear where I stand.

Abolish the police
Abolish prisons
Abolish capitalism
Abolish borders

Probably forgetting something. I usually do.
Using this as an opportunity to ask: people realize that the majority of this affordable housing isn't affordable to say, someone living off social security, right?
Home Forward, the city of Portland’s housing authority, is sitting on 955 empty affordable apartment units, according to a Nov. 7 vacancy report the agency provided to WW last month.

Councilors Green and Morillo really going after DCA Oliveira and the mayor for hiding information about millions of dollars in housing budget availability prior to the budget adjustment.

The city administrator deflects by placing blame on everyone in the city.

Early on in my mental health career journey I was supporting a person and asked a more experienced colleague why they weren't committed given that they kept getting in 'trouble' (legally and societally). And their answer was essentially "well why would they be?"

And I couldn't give a good answer.

I think conservatives have to focus on the progressive members of city council because outside of them they're getting a lot of what they want and the city isn't better for it.

We spent the past month (months?) talking w/ protesters detained at Portland's ICE bldg about their experiences. We heard everything from being questioned about antifa, to not being read Miranda rights, to photos w/ arresting officers.

Their stories point to a slapdash, chaotic federal operation:
Those arrested at Portland ICE protests recount disparate, confusing treatment by federal officers
OPB interviewed more than a dozen people who were arrested at the ICE protests between June and October. What they described was an apparent lack of standard operating procedures as various federal la...

It'd be funny if it wasn't so sad the way people will be like "I just don't want homeless people camping on side walks or near roads....or parks...or businesses....or the woods...or anywhere they might be noticed by anyone at any time really. And they definitely shouldn't be by shelters."

As usual I find that the most difficult of my beliefs to reconcile with others is that people aren't inherently "bad" or "evil" and are primarily a product of their environment, most of which in the world promotes violence and/or power as the way to achieve happiness and fulfillment.

Happy December! The month that reminds me that some people look at pre-redemption Ebenezer Scrooge, one of our cultural icons of greed, and think "that dude has some good ideas about society and how to run a business"

Or worse, emulate him without realizing.

Surely if we tweak a few building code regulations and hire more police this problem will solve itself.
Nearly 2k affordable apartment units sit empty in Portland, according to data crunched by the O.

A chief reason: Rising rents have closed the gap between market rate & so-called "affordable" housing, keeping subsidized units out of reach for low-income renters.

I feel uneasy about this. We've seen an increase in skeletal bodies in Hollywood and on social media for a few years now, and it seems to be getting worse. We know that thinness is tied to fascism and white supremacy. We know there is a ton of anti-fat bias in healthcare.

People living with obesity, when medically advised, may use GLP-1 therapies.

The effect of these medications is enhanced when combined with physical activity, a healthy diet, and long-term follow ups.
