Most public libraries are culling their physical media because it doesn’t circulate. If you want libraries to hold something, you need to check it out. Public libraries can’t just be warehouses for physical media you might want someday. Use it or lose it.
When we talk about physical media, we are often only taking about personal collections but a big part of shunning the current digital ecosystem is supporting your local library. Not just for print books and periodicals but for movies, games and other medias too. Get. A. Library. Card.

I would like if every c-suite executive had to work a minimum wage job in Iowa ($7.25/hr) for a year and then sit down and try to figure out why people don’t take their families to the movies as often anymore.

"The film does not offer excuses for violence, and neither should we; instead, it prompts reflection on where compassion and control are needed and where the pursuit of them falters,” writes Peyton Robinson about ROSEMEAD:

The problem with ”movies you’ve probably never heard of“ lists is that the people at work who have never heard of the weird movies you talk about also never read lists of movies they’ve probably never heard of.

physical media is more important than ever and it should be accessible to people everywhere. Baltimore has had a nonprofit video store for year’s now, and one of its co-founders @ericallenhatch.bsky.social wrote about how it can be replicated www.patreon.com/posts/24007106

Marielle Heller’s CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME? is a perfect holiday season movie even though it’s not about the holidays at all. Chilly/wintery NYC streets, melancholic, bitterly funny, gorgeously observant & squeezes your heart in all the right places, especially if you watch it under a blanket. ♥️

I saw an ad for some phone where a couple is at an art museum and instead of reading wall labels, using museum-provided tours/audio guides, or just taking in the art independently for themselves, they used a fucking AI "companion" to "guide" them, very likely incorrectly, and I took that PERSONALLY

I often feel so lazy, but just counted and I've written a total of 59 reviews, lists, blog posts, and essays this year for the love of it. I try not to quantify things too often, but that's a big number for a caregiver balancing nosebleeds and screeners. Feels alright.
