Dang, hard disagree. The best papers to write and read are works of art, not merely a list of data and statements.

Don’t let LLMs take this away too, for gods sake.
I honestly think we would all be a lot more productive if papers were bullet points with plots.

Or maybe go further and stop publishing in Nature? Seeking prestige in the first place is counter to doing good science. Rewarding prestige perpetuates the problem.

Publish only in diamond open access if you can.

Inclusivity is key to democracy. This means equal voting rights in our politics, but it can't end there. The economy also affects us in many ways.

What does inclusivity mean in the context of economics? It means inclusivity in ownership, the vehicle of economic power. It means worker ownership.

Note from an irritated editor: AI is starting to infiltrate peer review, or at least it looks a lot like it. If you’re planning to use an LLM to review someone else’s work for a journal, rather just don’t accept the review invitation. It’s easy.

Wondering why this shit keeps happening? Why both sides seem so corrupt and atrocious? One (of many) reason is that workers don't have the power to elect people who will actually represent us! Think about that next time systemic reforms like ranked choice voting come across your ballot.
Sanders: Let’s be clear… If this vote succeeds, over 20 million Americans are going to see at least a doubling in their premiums… if resolution is passed tonight, we are on a path way to throw 15 million Americans off of medicaid and the affordable care act, 15 million.

Worker ownership is proven to create far more equitable pay ratios. The average for worker-owned cooperatives in the United States is 2-to-1.

Unfortunately, it seems like almost no one really brings this up as the alternative. That is why we must continue to talk about it so that awareness expands.
Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol made $95.8 million in 2024.

The median barista made just $14,674.

That's a 6,666-to-1 CEO-to-worker pay ratio.

The largest of all S&P 500 companies.

Every single worker should walk out.

Americans deserve a livable wage. Enough!

#Drone folks - any considerations on a Mavic 3E vs 3M? I collect orthomosaics of rivers for ecogeomorphic mapping. I'm leaning towards 3M even though I'll rarely use the multispectral cams, since the cost is very similar to 3E, main cam is identical, and I can't see use case for the 3E zoom cam.

Spotify is running ads for ICE. Until they stop supporting fascist oppression and hate, I won't pay them. If you pay for Spotify, #CancelSpotify and pressure them. This isn't polarization, it's right and wrong, and Spotify is on the wrong side. app.sosha.ai/s/M7eMx2vx

Very excited to see a democratic socialist get elected to a major public office, but boy, our current state of authoritarian fascism is a looooong way from national democratic socialism, or even something resembling a functioning democracy. It'll take a LOT more fight to make progress here.
I study fascism. I’ve already fled America.

With a toddler in daycare and having recently experienced the long, sad period of back to back sicknesses you get from your toddler, I can confidently say: yes, this. Masks are awesome.
If you're hesitant about wearing a mask more often, just remember that it straightforwardly ROCKS to never get sick. Even without considering long-term health benefits, just the time and energy you save is a huge quality of life increase.

It's a buckle down, turn on some Chappell Roan, and measure some rivers kind of morning. This looks like a normal meander cutoff, right? Wrong! The channel that lost flow (left side of image) is expanding again, just a few years after what I thought was a full avulsion. What's the culprit? Wood?

No uniforms, no arrest warrant, just two masked thugs trying to abduct a random citizen.

This is what Hitler’s Nazi State did. His henchmen were eventually tried and convicted. But too many innocent people were traumatized and died.

Tr*mp is running a Nazi State. The US is a rogue state now

The most effective way to oppose this political takeover is collective action from the academic community. If the first universities that sign Trump contracts face strong academic boycotts- no talks, no manuscript reviews, no interviews of graduates- that should dissuade others from signing.

Is anyone aware of a private river science and/or consulting company that is organized as a worker-owned cooperative or worker self-directed non-profit? Is anyone else in my field prefiguring an alternative to capitalism?

This is part of why I'm reeeaaally leaning towards publishing exclusively in diamond open access journals like @geomorphica.bsky.social . Not that my work is hugely important, but paywalls suck, mega corporations making $$ off scientists suck, and I wish to encourage others to prefigure change.
In general I think it's hard to combat scientific misinformation when some of the best research is locked behind an academic paywall, while lots of nonsense gets published free for everyone to read in predatory journals.

If you live in Colorado, start using co-op rideshare instead of Uber and Lyft. Worker owned - more money goes to drivers, and they control the company. It's ethical, cost-effective, and a great way to fight against companies and governments who seek only to exploit. play.google.com/store/apps/d...

I do firmly believe that refusing to outsource your basic cognitive functions to LLMs right now - as so many are stumbling over themselves to do right now, like hogs trotting to a pile of slop that’s been set up inside of a butcher’s delivery truck - will very much pay off in a few years.
