“Despite women making up 51% of the global population, only about 19% of biographies on English language Wikipedia are about women. And that’s not just women scientists. That’s women in all professional areas. That’s anyone that the Internet has deemed notable.”

This is haunting. I did a very brief stint as a rural EMT

Lots of cases we would take to the little local hospital 10 min away. But the trauma center was 45 minutes away.

Imagine every ambulance call taking 45 minutes or more 😬 trying to keep people alive, doing CPR

are we great again yet

💚That deep sadness you feel, the irritability, anger, and numbness. It’s grief. Grief for who we were. Grief for who we could have been. Grief for the loss of CDC as we knew it and all that means for so many.

Be kind to yourself. Be patient. It’s ok to grieve. 💚

oooh new version of Positron just released and it has (1) github copilot chat and (2) automatic {dplyr} code generation based on filtering/sorting/etc that you do in the data viewer #rstats
Me saying "hey it's github copilot chat in my positron" Automatically generated dplyr code that matches the filtering and arranging that I did by clicking on columns in the data viewer

One of the greatest treats nature delivers this time of year are glimpses of the delightful red squirrels as they prepare for winter.

I saw 11 red squirrels on my evening stroll, not unusual at this time of year, each one a treat, and all now logged on this interactive map #RedSquirrels #Scotland

Here's a snippet from the MIT president's letter to ED
Screenshot from link that reads: The document also includes principles with which we disagree, including those that would restrict freedom of expression and our independence as an institution. And fundamentally, the premise of the document is inconsistent with our core belief that scientific funding should be based on scientific merit alone.

In our view, America’s leadership in science and innovation depends on independent thinking and open competition for excellence. In that free marketplace of ideas, the people of MIT gladly compete with the very best, without preferences. Therefore, with respect, we cannot support the proposed approach to addressing the issues facing higher education.

Many AI tools like GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT live in your browser or editor. But the open source tool OpenCode brings an AI assistant right to your terminal. In this tutorial, Manish explains how OpenCode works, its benefits, and how to install it.

Quarto has a way to collapse code, but what if you want to collapse code OUTPUT?

The amazing @mickael.canouil.fr created an extension that does just that!!!

Check it out! github.com/mcanouil/qua...

Huh. Saying the name no longer guarantees entrance to the club. I wonder about Stefanik. Any regrets noted there? Probably not. Will not be holding my breath.

Religious freedom for me*, tyranny for thee.

New Republican motto. Probably.

*Let's be real tho, their religious freedom includes the rights to deny rights. So yeah - just authoritarianism all the way around.

“I wish I could be the guy who says, ‘everyone calm down; things have been just as bad before, and we got through it.’ But I can’t be that reasonable-sounding moderate floating above it all. Things are very bad. People should be far more alarmed than they are.”
