I donated some copies of Let This Radicalize You for distribution at an ICE watch training for folks who want to join school patrols in a nearby neighborhood. Not everyone got a copy, because 120 people showed up for that training tonight. I am endlessly proud of Chicago.
A display of copies of Let This Radicalize You on a table in front of a sign that reads: "Let This Radicalize You offers stories, strategy and heart for the kind of collective care and resistance we're building together today. It helps us move from reacting to organizing. Showing how ordinary people protect each other, build power, and keep hope alive. Take a copy. Read it. Stay connected."

For those who have asked about the "in part" part of Judge Perry's ruling, it wasn't clear in the courtroom what she denied.

But, noticeable in the original prayer for relief (left) was a request to also block use of the "U.S. military" — something not mentioned in the final order (right).

It is a temporary order designed to preserve the status quo. There will be more hearings and perhaps a whole trial before it comes permanent. (And appeals are coming.)

I know a lot of people are still absorbing judge Perry's order against national guard deployment in Illinois. A couple things to keep in mind:

Looks like we didn't have to wait for tomorrow for the written order: bsky.app/profile/jons...

Perry agrees, after lawyers for the Trump administration decline to rule out the possibility that the president would mobilize another state's National Guard and sent those troops into Chicago.

Christopher Wells from Illinois tells Perry "we would request the addition of language intended to cover National Guard from other states, or the National Guard of the United States.

"We don't want to get into an Oregon situation."

Perry: "Any reason I can't just say 'National Guard'"?

Wells co-counsel: "You could say 'National Guard of the United States.'"

We're back.
Assistant Attorney General Christopher Wells, who struggled to maintain his composure while talking about the threats posed by Trump's order asks Perry to modify her order so the president cannot order a fourth (4th) state's national guard into Illinois.

Perry: Federal officials, as well as troops from Texas, would not be able to "appreciate" the complexity of the "strained" relations between Chicagoans and members of law enforcement.

Perry just handed a draft of her order to both sides and left the bench. She's letting them look at it until she returns.

We still don't know the details of her order. She said she's granting the state's request "in part," which indicates some part of it is also being denied. Stay tuned.

Perry: "Chicago's history of strained policing community relations is extremely well documented, but also fairly nuanced. It's something I think state and local authorities understand extremely well, and it can be hard for federal authorities, and certainly those from Texas, to appreciate."

More people are being detained and deported.
More people are being arrested.

At issue is what is actually happening at Broadview, Perry says.
Local law enforcement agencies say the protests are under control, while federal officials say they present an urgent threat.
Perry: "DHS' perception of events are simply unreliable."
