I agree with Victor re the frustrating lack of introspection. I also think there’s a “no true Scotsman” fallacy where it’s not really fascism unless an extensive & complex set of conditions are met. An admin can be fascist but not particularly successful at it; doesn’t mean it’s not their approach
Every one of the factors that now convince him Trump is fascist was present in the first term (even if unsuccessful). Lots of folks who accurately described Trump as fascist were called unserious. I'ed much rather someone admit why they were wrong (left-punching, bias, etc.) than this. Gift link
Yes, It’s Fascism
Until recently, I thought it a term best avoided. But now, the resemblances are too many and too strong to deny.

According to one Safe Haven volunteer I spoke with, people are not receiving medical care inside Whipple. They’re being denied access to medication, emerging with bruises and lumps. Some abductees are released in subzero temperatures t-shirts or shorts. Everyone’s phones get seized.

[ERIC ADAMS VOICE]: Minneapolis is the Gwangju of America
This was just me making this comparison yesterday, but today the Korean news is calling Minnesota "America's Gwangju" and have human rights lawyers explaining how America is now living through the dictatorship Korea once had.
The Chun regime that my wife fought against in the 80s did the exact same thing. They needed a "crisis" that "only they could solve" to hoard more ill-gotten power, so they chose one city (Gwangju), declared its inhabitants enemies, sent trucks full of soldiers to violently attack and kill them.

Comrades I've worked for the IRS and so I can tell you with some expertise that not only will this accomplish nothing but will in fact put you on the radar for further government action. Other than the Post Office the Service is one of the last agencies you want to fuck around with.

As we grieve for Alex Pretti and Renee Good in MN, please do not forget Victor Manuel Diaz, who died in ICE custody after being taken from here. And all others who have died in their custody.
36-year-old Nicaraguan national Victor Manuel Diaz died in ICE custody on Jan. 14 at Camp East Montana in El Paso.

The Texas Nicaraguan Community on FB reports that his mom last heard from him on Jan. 6, when he told her he was planning to go to Minneapolis to start work in a restaurant. 1/3

All the traits that you have been taught to value and look for in special individuals - courage, intelligence, strength - are actually collective traits. There is no genius or hero coming to save us from our problems. We solve them together or not at all. Socialism or barbarism.
I have never witnessed such a spiderweb of collective action, just average everyday people showing up. Not the heroism we’ve been sold by the movies but collective heroism, a fabric of care and resistance to fascism.

If you're not Minnesotan, you might not know that the late Philando Castile is a major reason we got free school lunches for all children in the state. When he was alive, Castile was a cafeteria worker who covered the cost of lunch for children who were too poor to eat. 1/x
ICE killing #AlexPretti should remind you of police killing #PhilandoCastille. Both men had concealed weapon permits, did not draw their guns, & were killed in Minn. These homicides are the price of unaccountable policing. These deaths are variations on the same fatal theme.

I really do think mandatory personal disarmament is a must for these chuds. Take their guns, blacklist them from new purchases, stiff penalties for possession if caught.

The fact that conservative movements have dollars slushing around with random ancient billionaires has made them think that's the only way social movements are funded. Genuinely do not realise that this is not normal or how solidarity works.
Pathetic.

It's the PTO moms and spreadsheet dads and other random-ass Minnesotans concerned for their neighbors. There is no one central organizing org, just a ton of people who give a shit. It's both beautiful that it's happening and laughable that anyone thinks there's some broader apparatus at work.
James O'Keefe says he's never seen anything so organized as the anti-ICE movement, observers--he seems to think this term is code--everywhere he goes. Who is paying for it??? he demands to know. It's like he can't even imagine people caring for one another.
