Today is the last day to read this piece for free.

It might work quite well as an intro to my writing for people who only know it via Bluesky.

P.S. It's much better if you read it all the way to the end.

I mean, I would say that, but I promise: it really does.

I still think the best way to think of the ending of US AID is as the single worst genocide committed by any one US presidential administration.

even given all the horrific things the US has done, it's not really that close. 750k dead already; expected 14 million.
this is exactly why I am absolutely not willing to overlook anyone who was once “advocating for ending USAID” as merely committing a little oopsie-daisy-booboo, by the way

This is one of those areas where California can (and will) hold the line, simply due to how many cars get sold in this state.

I remember the smog as a kid, and I’m sure plenty of others do too. We’re not going back to that.
“The U.S. no longer has emission standards of any meaning,” said Margo T. Oge, who served as the E.P.A.’s top vehicle emissions regulator under three presidents and has since advised both automakers and environmental groups…

“Nothing. Zero,” she added. “Not many countries have zero.”

Let me tell you a tale of how completely the normies have been mobilized. My 14 year-old niece has done School of Rock for the past 5 years; last summer she was part of their touring band, and the kids loved playing together so much that they decided to keep doing it. (1/?)

She’s in Mendocino. A little shy. VERY sweet. 8 years old. And was well loved.

Can anyone give her a soft spot to land?

That face!

If not, can you share?

Deaths are higher in emergency rooms of hospitals owned by private equity firms, per Harvard University.

They did the math: It’s cheaper to let you die than save you with a procedure you can’t afford.

This is what happens when it's profits over people.

The NYC Marriage Bureau really is a special place. The one marriage ceremony I've attended there was only a few minutes long, but the officiant (a retired judge, I think?) made it feel unrushed and meaningful. I've loved all my visits! It's the best for people-watching.
Everyone in the world comes to get married at the NYC Marriage Bureau. Last week, the Mayor stopped by to officiate a few of those ceremonies.

Thank you to all the couples who shared their joy with us. Happy Valentine's Day, New York.

This is something congress can fix and must fix.

It's real simple. Pass a law that says "in immigration cases, a habeas petition may be brought in the district of arrest of brought within 3 months of the initial arrest"
So it’s a race: how quickly can a person’s family realize they were snatched and find a lawyer, and how quickly can that lawyer get a habeas petition of file? And is that faster than ICE can load the detainee on a plane to Texas?

It’s exhausting and terrifying. It can be life and death.

I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

I’ve never felt unsafe in this bougie neighborhood a day in my life. This is a 25 mph zone, full of fancy bars and restaurants, a curling club, salons, boutiques, and one of the busiest coffee shops around. They are doing their damndest to wreck everything here.
This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.
