18 months ago University of Galway was honouring Palestinian human rights defender Shawan Jabarin of Al-Haq with a distinguished alumni award.

Now honorary doctorates are being refused because of ongoing links between the University and the complicit Technion Institute.

Third honoree turns down doctorate from University of Galway over research links to Israeli tech institute. #NUIG say they are contractually bound (but only signed the contract in 2024 - well into Israel's obliteration of Gaza).
Never mind Human Rights, guys, we got research money.. jrnl.ie/6886747

Rest in Power Margaretta D'Arcy, fierce, fearless artist and anti-war activist. She was a strong advocate for Palestinians, an early signatory to our Irish Artists' Pledge to Boycott Israel and a tireless campaigner against the US military use of Shannon Airport and efforts to erode our neutrality.

Last night, we attended the Women's 24-hour Vigil outside the Dáil. We joined Galway legend Margaretta D'Arcy, Raging Grannies, Red Umbrella Éireann, Street Workers Collective of Ireland, and Global Women's Strike.

Ireland needs to invest in care, not in military spending!

This as not simply populism, it's an extreme assault on public institutions and structures. The last week has been about the BBC, but comes alongside mounting attacks on judicial independence/the European Court of Human Rights. Treating each issue in isolation will see them killed off one by one.
What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.
