I love seeing tripods living long healthy lives! Xander 9 years ago after his surgery, 6 months later after adopting us, and this morning, lounging on my leg and purring at the top of his purrbox.

What have you done for me lately, except I *know* you’re doing something against me
I think about this, also in terms of vaccines, and really struggle with how you have a free society that doesn’t fall into this trap in one way or another. solved problems become invisible and the solutions become the source of conspiracy theories.
This seems logical but Dems solved* the whole problem of old-age health care costs in the mid-1960s and then they lost five of the next six presidential elections because by 1968 it was a solved problem and no one cared about it.

*Yes oversimplifying here and the rest of course.

Ahhhh….now the big AI push makes sense. This is perfect for the “dictator for life” concept! Autocrat dies? Keep them alive “forever” to “stay in charge” while the corrupt run everything behind the scenes! In fact, think of how awesome it would be if billionaires never “died”!

What’s never clear is how the GHG comp is made; it’s cradle-to-grave for corn, but just “vs gasoline.” Does the latter include emissions from exploration, drilling, fracking, transporting, refining, transporting again, etc.? If nothing else, petro *adds* C to the atmosphere, corn EtOH recycles it.
For pretty much any critique you can level at any source of energy -- inefficient, too much pollution, takes too much land, has too many externalities, is propped up by subsidies, whatever -- it's worse for corn ethanol.

It's worse in all dimensions. It has zero redeeming features.
Corn’s clean-energy promise is clashing with its climate footprint
Corn dominates U.S. farmland and fuels the ethanol industry. But the fertilizer it relies on drives emissions and fouls drinking water.

3 episodes into season 5 (IYKYK) and headed to bed. Up early, I have two different duxelles to make, 5lb of potatoes to get through the mandoline, 1lb of Gruyère to shred, and more - long day, but looking forward to it!

Yet another reason to be happy that I’ve been using @fastmail.com for 25+ years!
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Confucius supposedly said, “To know what you know and what you do not know, that is true knowledge.” I think the more knowledge you have, the more imposter syndrome you have (at least, I do). The corollary here is that the ruling “elite” (quotes required) are a bunch of no-nothing clueless bastards
Somewhere out there someone who’s the best at what they do is terrified that they have imposter syndrome while a bunch of barely literate pedophiles are very calmly running the world

Gather around, kids, as our loremaster Tdot spins the annual yarn of The Foodraiser - and then donate and help feed 13 elementary schools over the holiday break! (Scroll up from the skeet below for links.)

This will sound repetitive to the OG's, but there are only so many different ways I can narrate the same shenanigans for 10 straight years!

Know that entire books could be written just on Foodraiser logistics drama 🤪

This is “I’ve invented an engine that runs only on water” levels of quackery. A “solar continuous microwave pyrolysis reactor” - a word salad of epic proportions - that produces “gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, natural gas, and solid carbon” is as plausible as aviatory swine. Absolute hogwash.

Thanks to Erin, this post has prompted me to insist on plain bagel, plain cream cheese, red onion, capers, and (light) lox for Sunday breakfast. And much love to my wife, who said she’d go get it. Also, my brother who lives in Jackson Heights wouldn’t even vote for me, so political office be damned!
Tell me your bagel order and I will tell you *based on NYC cultural expectations* if you have won or lost your election for political office in NYC.
One of my favorite things about NYC is whenever anyone runs for office here they are required to disclose their bagel order.

Fascinating. I’m 53 and Tron was such an influence that I can hear the soundtrack in my head without even trying. Tron wasn’t just cool with me and my friends, it was almost life changing - the idea of Flynn directed many of us toward computer-based careers. What a difference 3 years makes!
That sounds about right. Tron was kinda a flash in the pan that I barely remember from my childhood. And I'm 50.
I'm perplexed at watching pundits in the trades struggling to explain Tron Ares' disappointing opening.

Was it covid? Do people just not like science fiction? etc. etc.

The main reason is pretty obvious: Tron isn't a popular franchise. Nobody's interested in nostalgia for a failed 1980s project.

Spent last night and this morning scrolling BlueSky and reading skeets about the baseball game last night. It sounds like an amazing game, extra innings and all, but I *still* don’t know who won! The commentary was non-specific, love-of-the-game stuff, it’s a Schrödinger’s Team situation! ❤️⚾️

Almost every morning, the tripod hops up onto the bed and curls up with me, making it difficult to get up and moving. Loving a #caturday long lie with my favorite tripod!

If anyone following me is interested in hearing more from me, especially with regards to general aviation, plastic models, or renewable energy, I’d love to hear it. I avoid social media because of the toxicity, but if there’s value in adding otherwise, I’d love to offer my tiny contribution!

I’ve not been contributing to the latest group build, but I want to say that you all make me *want* to contribute and I’m so happy I follow #scalemodels #histscalemodels! I’ve loved the heavies build (so far) and y’all have given me hope when the world is on fire. Thank you!
