an actually useful thing that a billionaire mounting a vanity campaign could do would be loudly to keep saying this, basically talking to the electorate like adults for once. Cut pensions, Raise Taxes, let in Immigrants to work. Those are the options. gotta pick one.
the actual suicide of the West will be combining a rapidly aging population with hostility to migrants. however we must give credit to East Asia, especially Japan, for pioneering this model.

Editors have a really hard job, and the good ones can make something unreadable readable, and the great ones can make something unreadable into something good. But they're basically invisible, until someone tries to write without one.

I mean, I go all "News in thrall to capital cannot adequately speak truth to power" all the time, but we're past that where the capital is actively hostile to people knowing the truth in most cases.

Kinda hard to trust news outlets these days!

POTUS gave a convicted child sex abuser favorable treatment, and dangled the prospect of a pardon, so she would tell lies about if he was implicated in her crimes. That's not speculative or circumstantial, it's a cold hard proven fact, in and of itself more than enough to demand removal from office.
Ghislaine Maxwell lied about Trump never going to Epstein's house (directly contradicted by her email correspondence with Epstein), and she was rewarded for that lie with a transfer to a cushier prison. The coverup is happening in plain sight.

If you read in a history book about a dictator in failing health who cut off money and food supplies from his people, attacked them with violent gendarmes, seemed oblivious to a national public outburst of anger in local elections, and wiled away the days building vast palaces, what would you think

U.S. employers have announced 1.1 million layoffs so far this year—the largest reading since the pandemic recession.

The layoff totals are on par with 2008 and 2009 job cuts during the Great Recession.

These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

Basically the Democrats are health food, the Republicans are methamphetamine, and the news media is your most toxic friend who encourages you to consume the latter over the former because livestreaming you while you're tweaking out gets them the most engagement online.
You can still find videos of the Biden Administration's daily press briefings, and I shit you not, the #1 topic for probably half of them was 'Us and other Dems are awesome at running the economy, Republicans want to make us tailspin into a recession,' and the media would never print a word of it.
It’s funny to see how many people here are insisting that Dems never even try to make this case when I think of it as “Bill Clinton’s favourite stat” which he brings up variations of literally every time he has a chance lol

The issue that sank Democrats in 2024 now threatens to do the same to Republicans in 2025 and the 2026 midterms
