30 years ago you could probably say that PC Zone/Official Playstation Mag etc covered all of the mainstream games, and 95% of what folk were out there playing, but in a way those types of outlets are niche now

which is fine! (i don't go to eurogamer to find out about the latest games in the app store) but it's clear that there's been nothing coming along behind the traditional gaming sites to cover all the new breed of gaming in anything like the same way, or to push them to try to cover it

i do think it's interesting that the Gaming Press, as it stands in 2025, doesn't really cover the games that perhaps the vast majority of the public are actually playing now (fortnite/roblox/mobile games) and instead covers the kind of games their mid-thirties writers like

I remember the first time I learned about "leasehold" and discovered that lots of folk who buy flats in England aren't actually buying the property itself but just an extended lease on it, so some ancient hereditary landowner or a property developer can continue extracting rent from them forever

they'd be better putting the money into ensuring employers actually support disabled staff to stay in work, because all that happens now is they repeatedly get hounded into having to take jobs that they burn out of or get fired from after a few months because of their health

there's also the weird situation where Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership has cancelled funding for the adult autism pathway, but Aberdeen City and Moray HSCPs haven't, so NHS Grampian patients can only access autism services if they live in Aberdeen or Moray
