Some of y'all expressing shock that 2015 was ten years ago didn't have your heart ripped out by Joe Carter in 1993.

Have never felt like Gerry Mulligan gets enough credit in the jazz world. Was a key arranger in the Birth of the Cool sessions, lobbied for better work conditions for jazz musicians, and managed to kick his heroin before it could destroy him. There's a wild New Yorker longread attached to this post.

Tonight's Jazz Tome addition: one of my favorite albums from one of my favorite saxophonists, Gerry Mulligan's What is There to Say? (1959). Included here is the New Yorker profile from March, 1959. At 21,000 words... it's fairly in-depth. #jazzsky #musicsky thejazztome.info/gerry-mullig...
A man in a long-sleeve red shirt, against a black background, stares contemplatively downward at a 45 degree angle while leaning on a baritone saxophone. The Gerry Mulligan Quartet is written across the top in bold letters. What Is There To Say?, in smaller letters, below.

Wish we could pop this bubble already and deal with the fallout just so statistics nerds can have their words back.

Love to get up early to attend a presentation that's basically an explainer of how AI is going to optimize my company's pricing. Sigh. Five years ago they'd have called this analytics, modeling, optimization. But everything has to be called AI now.
