One really whacky thing about my work habits is that if I get really, really absorbed into some project for multiple days in a row, a side effect is that I start getting jumpscared by like. Unexpected movement in my peripheral vision.

On god, it’s so tiring explaining how no, LLMs are NOT magic or nearly sentient, generating coherent text does not mean that.
“AI sceptics” who work on policy and education continue to overestimate the utility of LLMs—portraying it as a potential revolution even as they warn against overhype—simply because they can’t see that generating seemingly coherent text has very little economic value, all evidence to the contrary

I think it’s important to remain realistic about mamdani, though: he’s the NYC mayor, not governor, congressman, etc. he has relatively little power and honestly may not get most of his policy done. I think that’s ok. It’s far more important that people WANT it.
