the fantasy worldbuilding sphere has still not yet recovered from that one note about the calendar system inside that tower in the hub level from Dishonored

RECORD OF AN ARCTIC WAR

This spring we played a game. It was a very large game, with many details. We learned a few things — mostly concerning the terrible world to come.

They say you can judge a man by his King's Field 1-4 maps...

It's really funny and hard to map 3d spaces. Added some thoughts on the King's field games in the alt text. My fav is King's field 1 (JP 2)
Partial map of King's field 1. I really liked the relative simplicity of this game and how it connected it's 5 floors Map of King's field 2 opening area. This one grew on me more after clearing. The multilayered levels are a funny nightmare to map and it feels quite satisfying to have partially internalized it King's field 3 "map". I didn't really like kf3 because of how there was no verticality but it lost the connections of kf1, so I didn't finish it. But having a Fromsoft game with towns and npcs was interesting! King's field 4 map. Didn't finish this one yet, but it does have the simplest world (compared to 1 and 2) because it keeps the interlevel connections more straightforward than kf2. Also, the PS2 art means there's some actual landmarks. It's still fun, but a tradeoff from the chaos of 1 and 2 IMO, so it didn't capture my imagination quite as much

i don't think the trend towards disempowerment is meant to be a pointless joke or pessimistic - it comes from a british tradition of social satire and the picaresque. the 'american' tradition is probably more worrying: the adventurer as a colonialist-cowboy-superhero who enforces his will with ease.

waow i say this a lot too. it's true.
