Imagine how dumb you must be to have an ego the size of Earth yet still artificially create hype that you’ll win an award that you literally cannot win (Nobel nominations closed in Jan) so to guarantee you’ll appear as a reject & loser when the winner is announced.

A spectacular own goal for Trump.

It is not too late for Donald Trump to win the Nobel Peace Prize if Mike Pence has the courage.

Thune plays the reasonable moderate, getting the lantern-jawed, steely-eyed-athletic-heartlander benefit of the doubt. But Thune (grandson of immigrants btw), who has been in the Senate for 20 yrs, is really the problem. Because he knows better but covers for the crazies. @profgalloway.com

someone should tell Trump they don't give the Peace Prize to people who blow up boats and murder those on high seas nor to those who deploy military against their own people. NEVER.

“My NIMBY stance was for my family property in the beginning. Now it’s for my whole state. I say no, we don’t want a prison. We don’t want this mega prison in this state,” says a resident of Franklin County, Arkansas.
The Prison Next Door
How Arkansas’ secretive plan for a new state lockup angered people in a deep red corner of rural America—and changed how some see incarceration.

Sadly, conviction isn't the goal. It's punishment through legal fees.

Good piece, but all you REALLY need to know about the indictment is that it was personally secured by Lindsey Halligan, the wildly unqualified Trump lackey who was installed (illegally, it seems) for the lone purpose of bringing these bogus charges.

This will not result in a conviction.

Good time to read @mollyroberts.bsky.social:

Ain't it amazing? And we were going to lose the Supreme Court. So, we lost the Supreme Court and the NYT decided that Document Retention and Security wasn't worth the bother.

This is for all the people who found Hillary Clinton "the lesser of two evils" in 2016. We KNEW the consequences. The political press was already lost and we didn't quite know that yet.

Truly excellent new piece by Lincoln Caplan in @harvardmagazine.bsky.social on John Roberts, seen in full.

Careful, meticulous, devastating case on how "institutionalist" has enabled destruction of crucial institutions. Including his now discredited court.
www.harvardmagazine.com/legal/suprem...
Quote:
Their outcomes, along with the Court’s actions in the last few years, carry the seeds of American tragedy. Roberts, often described as an institutionalist, has enabled the most hostile anti-institutionalist ever elected president. The leader of the nation’s judicial system has empowered the president who is the most disdainful in history of the decrees of judges, the provisos of the Constitution, and the workings of American democracy. The chief justice, attempting to thread the needle between principle and practicality, has opened the door to the possibility of the ultimate constitutional crisis: a president’s outright defiance of the Supreme Court.

Here's one of the explanations DOJ gave for needing to invade Chicago. A picture of LA (which it doesn't ID as such). Bring noisemakers, it says.

INVADE FOUR MONTHS LATER WITH TROOPS, Trump says.

It tells people to bring noisemakers and a friend.

~70,000 or so living in New Mexico needn't worry...

...because the NM legislature & Gov. Lujan Grisham have taken measures to backfill 100% OF THE LOST FEDERAL TAX CREDITS FOR ALL ENROLLEES!

As one who has litigated FOIA cases for over 30 years, this decision is consistent with applicable law and policy.

As the Court notes, "record evidence establishes that any privacy interest of Musk’s is outweighed by the substantial public interests in disclosure."

NEW: Comey is going to file selective and vindictive prosecution motion to dismiss AND he will challenge the legality of Halligan’s appointment! There’s more, too… so glad @annabower.bsky.social is there to bring us the whole story! Thread below with details:

The judge also set an initial schedule for pre-trial motions.

The first set is expected by Oct. 12. Per Comey’s defense counsel, that batch will include motions to dismiss for selective and vindictive prosecution, as well as a motion challenging the legality of Halligan’s appointment as US attorney
