RICHMOND, Va — A radio interview surfaced today where Winsome Earle-Sears peddled dangerous lies about abortion providers and perpetuated misinformation about abortion care. These statements are the most alarming and dangerous of all of the extreme anti-abortion rhetoric Sears has normalized in the past. This time, her comments illustrate the ease with which she discusses and threatens violence against people seeking abortion care and the trusted clinicians who provide it.

Jamie Lockhart, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia:

“We call on Winsome Earle-Sears to retract this remark and to clearly and unambiguously condemn violence in all forms. Elected leaders have a responsibility to de-escalate and to protect the safety of Virginians, not to legitimize or amplify threats that put lives and livelihoods at risk.

Saying ‘when you are willing to kill a child up until the day that baby is born…murder is murder…one day, it’s gonna be your turn,’ is not political theater. It reminds us that while the majority of Americans agree that abortion is health care, those who will stop at nothing to ban it, also will sink to any level to make it inaccessible – including invoking fear for those seeking and those providing care. Virginians deserve leaders who protect access to care.”
