Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

In a world where capitalism is failing, this place always fills me with optimism and enthusiasm. The combined weight of socialist what could have been.
A better, fairer world was possible and people fought for it and wrote about it.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Inspired by the story of Angel Meadow in Manchester for teaching Industrial living conditions for OCR B, I've done something similar for the East End of London in the 20th century using the amazing The Abyss of London by the aptly named Jack London. This story really helps build the East End world

3 things Starmer could do instead of camps in old barracks that would actually WORK👇

1. Create safe, regulated routes to apply for asylum in the UK

2. Let asylum seekers WORK & support themselves

3. Fast track status for people from obviously unsafe countries

This book is great for setting the scenes for each section of Viking Expansion. It can be quite tricky for students to get into the Vikings, as it’s so different from everything else they’ve studied; I think this will help. #historyteacher #GCSE I haven’t got to kings yet, which is where we struggle

Neat way of visualising extreme wealth…

Didcot is most avg town in England (pop. 32,186)

Mean net worth in England is about £305k per person.

If a millionaire came to live in Didcot, the mean worth would rise by 22p per person.

If Elon Musk arrived it would rise by £11.5 million

Superb review of Lenny Henry & Marcus Ryder's reasoned explanation of reparations & Nigel Biggar's malevolent rebuttal. @bizk.bsky.social far quicker than my plodding pace but writing something along similar lines that delves more into the histories of slavery now. observer.co.uk/culture/book...
