Trump Administration Lays Off Dozens of C.D.C. Officials
“Disease detectives,” high-ranking scientists, the entire Washington office and the staff of a weekly public health journal were among those who learned late Friday that they would lose their jobs.

News: Two Nobel laureates — the French E. Duflo and the Indian A. Banerjee — are now leaving their well-paid positions at MIT and moving to Europe. For money? No, for reasons like this. The good news is that Europe is regaining the brains that once made the U.S. great.

Everything is a zoonosis!drawing/listing challenge
#18- Deer
This got me thinking *what* is a zoonosis?
Per WHO they r ifx “naturally transmissible from vertebrate animals to humans”
I’ve seen Lyme referred to as “vector-borne zoonotic disease”
And what is a reservoir?
Thoughts #IDSky #VetSky?
A cute picture of a deer and zoonoses associated with them. If this deer looks orange to you is because somehow I thought mixing orange and yellow alcohol markers would make a tan color, and to my surprise it didn’t so then I tried coloring over it.

This year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was just announced:
www.nobelprize.org/prizes/medic...

This seems like a good opportunity for me to explain a bit about peripheral immune tolerance and where the prizewinners' work comes in 🧵
6 October 2025

The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has decided to award the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to:

Mary E. Brunkow
Institute for Systems Biology,
Seattle, USA

Fred Ramsdell
Sonoma Biotherapeutics,
San Francisco, USA

Shimon Sakaguchi
Osaka University,
Osaka, Japan

“for their discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance”

🎉to Charlotte Rabault - she published this after a 6-month fellowship in Joburg

In patients aged >90 days, prior antifungal use was associated with non-susceptible Candida bloodstream infection (OR 2.02). In young infants, hospital transmission was more influential.

Unfortunately, the slow but real resurgence of drug-resistant (now) tuberculosis is an international trend… The question I would like to ask the medical specialists in this field is: From what prevalence would it be prudent to once again recommend routine BCG vaccination? Any paper on this?
holdthelamp.bsky.social

Respectfully: this modest nurse agrees with both 😅 , but there are so many nuances. For ex., in some countries nurses also have limited prescribing authority under specific conditions and medical oversight.....too complex a topic for 300 characters…
