I completely agree! I also feel now that it's quite remarkable they were able to find *two* actors who were such good Watsons for Brett's Holmes. They definitely have their own takes, but it really was like hitting the jackpot twice, chemistry-wise.

Okay but: I'd argue that they're "identity" discs. They're "spiritual" items first, and weapons second (see: Tron using his to contact Alan). They're effectively a program's weaponized soul. Yes I thought about the death Frisbees way too deeply for some reason

I had to do research to confirm it, but I saw (but did not try) one of these at the former Sega World arcade in Darling Harbor in Sydney! I recall thinking it was wild, and then playing Virtual On instead, but now I feel like I saw a legend.

To be honest I only half remember the last-minute papers, but I DO remember forgetting to do the reading, being specifically called on, and having to BS an entire discussion... On Heian-era Japanese court poetry. To high praise on my insight from the professor. A computer could NEVER.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

This might seem like a small thing; commerical patterns are imperfect and obviously there are a few companies outside the US, and indies too. But we were a hair's breadth from losing a major set of tools for making things, and making things is so important
