It's going to be absolutely critical that we be able to hack on and trust the hardware we use. I think the hardware from MNT is the best bet we have for a computing future we still have a say in mnt.re

I hope the MNT Reform Next is going to make MNT's stuff more accessible to more people
MNT Research GmbH
MNT Research makes open source hardware laptops, mobile devices and keyboards that are modular and repairable. Designed and assembled in Berlin, EU.

Pobreza, calor, hambre. Pero vamos a prohibir los telefonos en las escuelas.
on stuff that feels novel, new, emerging, scary, rather than the hard and boring old problems that are like "if we fixed the temperature in this school kids would be healthier and learn better," and "if we got them more food they would learn better." No, the answer is always cell phones 🙄
We got a rice maker as a wedding gift, and I never learned to make pegao either.

My mother in law made, my sister in law, and cooks in our church group all make 6 pounds of rice in a giant caldero with perfect golden crispy pegao. I could never.
I wonder how long before they start denaturalizing us Puerto Ricans?
The White House has ordered the US Dept. of Justice to prioritize denaturalization: voiding the citizenship of US citizens.

Who will it denaturalize? "Any" case that it "determines to be sufficiently important".

Point 10 leaves the criteria opaque and arbitrary.

They Asked Me To Cut My 6-Year-Old Son's Hair. I Taught Them About Native Cultural Erasure.

In February, my 6-year-old Waccamaw Siouan son was told that he must cut his long hair to continue attending a public charter school in North Carolina — and our world stopped.

Happy go skateboarding day to all who celebrate!

I've been skating for 50 years. I've never been good at it, but I can still do a 360°, and learned to Coleman slide a couple.of years ago.

Skatebarding keeps me young.
Cupey, de vez en mil pasa el amolador. Ya nunca veo verdurero. No recuerdo donas por aca.
The cuts to training and education will do incalculable damage to biomedical research and health.
I urge everyone to read Unbreaking’s new page on everything the govt is doing to destroy & diminish medical research funding.

It’s the best thing I’ve read on this topic: @lizneeley.bsky.social & co have such done an incredible job.

75 years of scientific discovery—now on the chopping block.

Trump’s 2025 budget proposes a 56% cut to the NSF. Over 1,000 grants terminated. 37 divisions abolished. Funding frozen.

This isn’t just reckless—it’s a war on knowledge, a war on progress.

The right-wing attacks on education--the grad student arrests, defunding battles, long-term reputation attacks--are a strategy, and so I've been thinking about what the big-picture counter-strategy is.

And then I wrote an article about it.
Attacks on Higher Ed and the New Illiberal Electorate
The right-wing destruction of American higher education institutions is a strategic move. Liberals need to answer with a strategy of their own.

You know what I wish the more human-centered tech conferences would do right now?

Open up special tickets and speaking slots for scientists whose work is getting axed and whose fields are being obliterated right now.

My grandfather, an old doctor, complained his patients expected him to always prescribe some pill, even though he thought they should just rest.

Patients here just go to the drug store and buy loose antibiotics, no doctor visit. "I have a sore throat, give me 5 pen vks".

I was listening to mountaintown.fm this morning and they played Viva Puerto Rico Libre by Ghetto Brothers. I don't think I ever heard them before. The album first released in 1978.
