More people in the US lost jobs bc of the moral panic around tasteless social media posts about Charlie Kirk’s murder than have been punished for appearing in the Epstein files or for participating in his sex trafficking operations. The latter’s been going on for >10 yrs!

I'm sure this program does great things for these students. But why is our solution to structural inequalities in education always to create more programs & longer educational training for these students, instead of fixing the issues that leave them still at a disadvantage post-bachelor's degree?

PostBac, PreDoc, PostDoc. How many ways can the American university (re)package education? Are US degree programs so weak, we need to supplement before & after? Or so elitist, applicants need more assistance to get admitted? Or is this a new, cheap labor model for underfunded academic science?

What happens if we all (or a large proportion of us) refuse to answer the citizenship question? Can citizen resistance to these and other types of checks, make life in the US safer for non-citizens?
Trump officials propose testing a citizenship question amid a push to alter the census
The Trump administration proposes to include a question about U.S. citizenship status in this year's field test of the 2030 census, as Republicans push to alter the counts behind voting maps.

Yesterday morning kids were sent running from their bus stop in panic because ICE showed up. This guy at today’s ICE Out of Lindenwold protest is a must watch 😭. @maddow.bsky.social

On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.
DHS is shutting down because it refuses to obey the law. They are tear-gassing schools, killing American citizens, and disappearing legal immigrants. Democrats shouldn’t fund an out of control ICE.
"A modern-day concentration camp ... People have been killed by the staff here." Irish citizen Seamus Culleton has been in ICE detention since September, despite having a valid work permit and his own business in the US.

A man shot his way into a Phoenix family home. Kids and called 911. The dad subdued the attacker. Everyone told police. Then a cop responding to the scene shot the father.

Read @zhbuchanan.bsky.social on the footage + audio from a deadly police shooting.

It's been almost a year now, but the Trump administration lifting the Domino's sugar ban early in their administration made clear exactly how they feel about forced labor (hint: they *love* it). It flew under the radar at the time with so much else going on. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/19/b...

Vance’s plane full of American food to Italy offers weak reparations for the tons of cheese, pasta & wine Americans haul back from Italy each day
Not only did they bring a small private army, but among the waste of taxpayer money was BRINGING A FULL PLANE OF FOOD.

To *Italy*.

Apparently one can take large bottles of water through security, if one works at the airport. I get that TSA is mostly theater, but what are we even doing? If only we had some data on disgruntled employees in the US taking violent action in the workplace or likelihood of bribing a low wage worker

US sports media celebrating Lindsey Vonn skiing with a torn ACL reveals so much about what is wrong with American sports culture. Competing with an injury does not make one a hero - it's dangerous & unnecessary. Surely the US has other talented, healthy skiers eager to compete at an Olympics

I used to think AI had no business in academic peer-review journals. But now that I'm regularly seeing manuscript reviews focused primarily on copy edits & editorial decisions based on tallying reviewer votes rather than thoughtful assessment, I'm starting to see an obvious role for AI

This video offers real insights into the messaging ICE officers receive within their ranks
1) they are more transparent & acting the same as previous administrations
2)undocumented people in the US are voting & ICE is removing fraudulent voters
3) "blue-state" media is anti-ICE

This is spot on! Mayors & Councils around Arizona work tirelessly to prevent homeless shelters, social services providers, abortion clinics etc from prime locations, but somehow missed the $70M DHS purchase of a building for the purpose of storing & abusing humans
Residents are chiding the council and mayor for saying they had no idea this facility was being bought by DHS. “It was your job to know,” said a speaker who called the council “failures.” Another said they wouldn’t be making these “we can’t do anything” excuses if it was a proposed homeless shelter.

Sale of a $70M storage facility (next to a high school) to DHS to be used as an internment facility is trying major push back from the town. Earlier this wk the mayor said he knew nothing about it.

Surprise is NOT a liberal place in Arizona. This level of protest in normie AZ is incredible!
It’s hard to put into perspective how truly massive the warehouse is that was recently sold by the Rockefeller Group to the Department of Homeland Security for $70 million to build a concentration camp in Surprise, AZ. Across the street is a huge neighborhood and a school. It’s 400,000-square-feet.
Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”
