It just can't be overstated how much shame this unqualified hack has brought on the American military.

During our State of Democracy event last month, Harvard professor @ryanenos.bsky.social spoke about how our democracy is being eroded, in many cases without the public recognizing that it is happening.

This is my anecdotal read of other social science job markets, but I would be curious if anyone has the data.

It would be fascinating to ask each of these members to define socialism.

This is bad inference. Neighbors have been battling over Christmas lights since Christmas lights were invented. These reporters are just choosing to interpret through the lense of "partisan divide" because that is what's accessible to them.

This is well said because there will always be aspiring tyrants. It's how we respond to them that matters.

There is something darkly poetic, in an Orwellian sense, about the aspiring dictator saying to the press, "Quiet, quiet, piggy".

yes, I think these are possibilities. And, there are tradeoffs to this, but I am not sure it will be an entirely bad thing. I don't know if there is a lot of marginal value in all the low-budget surveys that are funded by academics and commercial firms.
Terrific

This is good to know. Looking forward to learning more.

This video of Sugriva using Instagram is shocking because it's so similar to how humans use social media--engaging with content that triggers our emotions, like images of our friends and foes.

I know it can be hard, but when one of Trump's allies abandons him, the right move is to welcome them with open arms to the coalition of democracy defenders.

Pauling was a two time Noble Prize winner, one of the most profound scientists in human history, but the state department and (according to Watson), the Cal Tech board would rather do without him because he was a peace activist. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus_P...

If you want an example of how we are doomed to make the same mistakes over and over again, read James Watson's description of how the state department denied Linus Pauling a passport and his speculation that the millionaires in the Cal Tech board would have been perfectly happy to be rid of him.

I'm glad that the Upshot is doing this analysis, but keep in mind that our first assumption on virtually *any* single change in a group's voting behavior is that it will be followed by a regression to the mean.
The New Jersey governor’s race is the first significant sign that Trump’s success with Hispanic voters in 2024 may have been a temporary shift.
