Musk’s opposition has nothing to do with defending speech.

The bill’s criminal provisions, which make it a federal crime to knowingly publish non consensual intimate imagery, including deepfake sexual abuse, are in effect already.

The problem is that there hasn’t been a whole lot for education of law enforcement or targets about how to use the law. 2/

Sadly the notice and removal process of the TAKE IT DOWN Act, which requires platforms to remove non consensual deepfake sexual abuse, does not come into force until May.

Could have been in force already, but the bill got yanked from the 2024 NDAA because of a Musk hissy fit.

X basically industrialized the creation of fake porn of women who don't consent. Others did it first, but Grok made it normalized and centralized: publicly visible, instantly creatable by anyone, regardless of who's being targeted and dehumanized. Only question now is will X suffer any consequences
