He must have really liked it I guess. Or maybe Mike Moorcock threatened him with either physical or supernatural violence

"Regime spies"? totally normal American wording.

But hard agree on the lasers front

Just found out that Harlan Ellison was a Doctor Who fan! unsurprising, really, but welcome news.

1975: Harlan Ellison visits Michael Moorcock in London. The Englishman sits Ellison in front of the TV when Dr Who comes on & insists Ellison “be quiet & just watch”. By the late 1970s,Ellison is such a fan of Dr Who that he’s taunting US scifi fans with declarations of its superiority over US fare.

We need to hang out soon man, it's been far too long. I still haven't seen your laser cutter!

His aura is immense. We get wafts of it over here

Very useful thread if you're making models, or, if you're like me, desperately want to make films using miniature sets and need some advice!

thread of how to scratchbuild a cave? okay then.

1) leftover Styrofoam packing, roughly cut to shape and size, separated into several interlocking pieces as it needs to fit inside our existing display cases. purple worm for scale!

just imagine this miniature homage to 1e AD&D is finished and not just a rushed dry mockup in a spare hour between hospital runs and food prep

It works, I can see why you went for it! But there's a fairly stark difference between North and South Warwickshire, which, oddly enough, seems to be marked largely by the line of the Danelaw.

And if you go out towards Rugby, the whole place is positively haunted. Stains from the Civil War

Oh no. He'd have some lambs flown in.

I have no beef with you - you have made an honest mistake, I assume - but should you continue to associate me with the heart of darkness that is Nuneaton - or worse, Bedworth - then I shall be forced to ready my finest duelling-trout!

And don't even start on Coventry, that's a matter for firearms

They really are a drinker's drink. It's booze mixed with more booze, and the cocktail shaker makes it cold without watering it down. I used to absolutely cane them all the time but these days I tend to just stick to lager
huwbowen.bsky.social
Goddamn it man, you have no idea what an insult that is! I'll have you know I am from Leamington Spa, sir! how very dare you tar me with that brush!

You have a standing offer - just give me some notice so I can get all the trimmings in!

Plan on getting an Uber or other public transport, one of these puppies will put you over the limit just by smelling it, I think
huwbowen.bsky.social
Anyway, if you're in the Midlands, I'll make you a martini. Possibly two. Absolutely would not recommend three. I can safely assert that I make the best martinis - and manhattans - in Warwickshire.
huwbowen.bsky.social
Ah, of course, it's a Gibson. I should have remembered that, because it's one of my favourite drinks, and also @greatdismal.bsky.social is one of my favourite writers.
huwbowen.bsky.social
There’s a name for a martini made with silver skin onions rather than olives but I’ll be damned if I can remember it
huwbowen.bsky.social
Absolutely you can. Pickled onions work especially well
huwbowen.bsky.social
Fix it in post

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.
huwbowen.bsky.social
It’s specifically using a splash of the olive juice, in addition to the olives.

The alternative of course is with a twist of lemon, which is particularly nice in a gin martini.
huwbowen.bsky.social
It's with some of the olive juice added, and it's fucking delicious

I go for 3 or 4 parts vodka (or gin, if you prefer), 1 part white vermouth, several olives, splash of the brine. mmmmmmm

If you live with elderly felines, it's gonna happen!

The 21st Century is fucking mental, but here we are, and this seems pretty accurate tbh
huwbowen.bsky.social
Bloody hell, that’s so cool. I’d love to work on something like that! Amazing stuff, nice one!
huwbowen.bsky.social
Is that your work? It's spectacular!

I'm surprised we didn't see the animator's hair get visibly greyer throughout the clip! Several weeks is very good going indeed for stop-motion. That's awesome
