I envy my dog who has no idea what just happened.

Many of us know who we are, but don’t have the words or the safety to come out. And the current attacks on LGBTQ people are only proving those worries correct.
hvnorrisphd.bsky.social
Why does this matter? Because it shows how LGBTQ people still experience stigma about coming out. And it also completely upends the current far right narrative about identities “changing”.
pewresearch.org
A broad majority of LGBTQ Americans (82%) say they first felt they might be lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer or transgender before age 18. This includes 58% who say they first felt this way before age 14. 💭
Chart shows that A broad majority of LGBTQ adults (82%) thought they might be LGBTQ before age 18, but far fewer (43%) came out to someone that young

Turns out, the MAGA Supreme Court is the one interested in converting your kids through the use of quack doctors with medically unsound practices based on no scientific evidence. "Every accusation is a confession" with them.

The Supreme Court Wants to Convert Your Kids
During a hearing this week, the court’s theocrats made it clear that they’ll vote to end a ban on conversion therapy for minors.

One thing I learned working on the hill is that A LOT of states depend on H-1B for their medical staff. This puts entire communities at risk because they won't have providers.

President Trump’s surprise proclamation slapping new H-1B workers with a $100,000 fee jolted the tech industry.

The first legal challenge to the fee though didn’t come from Silicon Valley, but a coalition of healthcare, education, and religious employers.

H-1B $100,000 Fee Lawsuit Signals Labor Disruptions Beyond Tech
The first legal challenge to President Donald Trump’s $100,000 fee for new H-1B workers was launched by a coalition of employers well outside of Silicon Valley, showcasing the effects the steep new co...

It's jarring for Miller to admit they want plenary authority but this isn't new. They've been trying to do this since jan 20. And the co-branches are letting them! Congress relegated their checks and balances via their inaction and SCOTUS has given the greenlight. why does no one have a backbone?!

"...when it came time for ADF to show that this law was harming children by preventing them from getting the services that they wanted, they had to go to Reddit, and they had to quote anonymous posts...that were allegedly written by minors who sought out conversion therapy and couldn’t find it."

If you're wondering why standing kept coming up in oral argument yesterday, it's probably because of this:

As always, Chris's analysis gets to the root of the problem.

"It was a sharp lesson in how much power the court has in resolving cases through definitions — while claiming to stay out of the political and policy debates."

“The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday appeared likely to strike down Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy by licensed therapists practiced on minors — a ruling that could affect similar laws in nearly half the country and make life more difficult for LGBTQ children at an already perilous time.”

I'm continuing to process everything we heard yesterday. But this exchange between KBJ and the DOJ's lawyer is sticking with me. (page 54 of the transcript).

Something that did not come up during the arguments today, but that I can't stop thinking about, is the 'bans on bans' 11th circuit case (Otto-southern states in yellow). That case was about a local ordinance, not a state law. It might seem like a small difference but it really, really matters.

Chiles v Salazar is the clearest example that anti-trans fights are about all LGBTQI people. A lot of those conversion therapy bans were passed to regulate sexual orientation CT. Just bc they got the court’s attention by focusing on gender identity today, doesn’t mean their goal isn’t more broad.

Open enrollment obviously impacts people whose only coverage option is ACA insurance. But it also impacts people who are offered expensive employer-sponsored plans who will need to do the math to determine if ACA fits their budget. No one can do this until the subsidies are finalized.
