I don't really talk about my day job cuz I believe in the separation of church and state, but I used to write about comics at 4thletter! and ComicsAlliance.
I've always been doing side projects and have a fair amount in 2024 for you.
A picture of the writer at his keyboard, and a thread of works:
years ago now, like pre-2010 probably, there was a post on PopCultureShock (RIP) from a gay guy who went to Yaoi-con and (to my memory, it's been ages) was similarly surprised at how he was received and then objectified during that experience.
I wish the site was still up, I'd like to read it again.

the Grand Lake is my theater. for several days of the week and every weekend, you can see a bunch of people, mostly older folks, protesting. it's good.

One member of the criminal gang lights up a cigarette, takes a drag or two then hands it to their partner who does the same.

That one always hits. They're not lovers or maybe not even friends, but bound together all the same.
This is a favorite question to ask. Favorite little moment of kindness in a movie? I'm thinking of Tim Blake Nelson leaving money on the sill after they steal a pie in O Brother.

Issue 3 of The Comics Courier, a newspaper about comic books, is available to buy now!

Featuring an essay I wrote about how comics are too obsessed by comics and should maybe go read some Virginia Woolf for a change, or something: ko-fi.com/s/9a9a26881c

If you are a bizarre sexy drawing artist as your career, your posthumous graphic novel absolutely needs to be a densely-researched nonfiction historical biographical comic. Do it for the bit

He's talked in interviews about not being a sci fi person, but he did a lot of sci fi shows and films because that's where the animation industry was at the time. He didn't think his interests were commercial enough. If you look at Tomino's other series, you see the lack of Yas's influence in them.

animator/mangaka Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, signature YAS, is maybe best known for designs for Mobile Suit Gundam, but the vast majority of his work since then has been meticulously researched historical fiction, including Christian stories despite not being Christian himself.
These feel far apart to me.

I really enjoy Big KRIT because we basically have all the same touchstones. Dedicated to Cadalee Biarritz, his new album, is named after a car my granddad did NOT like. (He was a sedan DeVille guy. Big body red.)

during the concert conversation the other day, I was telling people that I got to see a song that's really important to me live, and that I revisit the clip on the regular. it came up on my Favorites playlist, and I always listen to it twice in a row before moving on.

Stop letting Bleeding fucking Cool drive the comics conversation. You wouldn’t read Fox News and leap at their bait. it’s the same. They aren’t on your side. If they were, they wouldn’t have gassed up comicsgate dickheads for years and years.
