I don't really talk about my day job cuz I believe in the separation of church and state, but I used to write about comics at 4thletter! and ComicsAlliance.
I've always been doing side projects and have a fair amount in 2024 for you.
A picture of the writer at his keyboard, and a thread of works:
the last time I did a newsletter, it was about how music is used in Death Stranding 1 & 2, amongst other things. I'm still figuring out the next one, but look for it in the next week or so as I whittle down my notes.

my main thing with video game adaptations is that they adapt the story and character designs, but always end up an inferior experience to actually playing the video game itself. A couple of those Resident Evils work because they did their own thing instead of being a worse version of the real thing.

I really liked Gravity when it dropped. Cool to see a look back at it, especially one that spins up into the vagaries of creating new characters today.

Any tips for getting rid of stems on tapered lines? It's been an issue before but I don't normally use tapered brushes.

The Lady Nezumi plugin seems helpful but I'm on OSX so unfortunately it isn't an option.

for years, my position on Childish Gambino was that, for a rapper, he was a great stand-up comedian. then Because the Internet, "Telegraph Ave," and "3005" hit. I was trapped.
I like his Kauai EP, especially this joint where he doesn't quite nail the falsetto:

years ago now, like pre-2010 probably, there was a post on PopCultureShock (RIP) from a gay guy who went to Yaoi-con and (to my memory, it's been ages) was similarly surprised at how he was received and then objectified during that experience.
I wish the site was still up, I'd like to read it again.

One member of the criminal gang lights up a cigarette, takes a drag or two then hands it to their partner who does the same.

That one always hits. They're not lovers or maybe not even friends, but bound together all the same.
This is a favorite question to ask. Favorite little moment of kindness in a movie? I'm thinking of Tim Blake Nelson leaving money on the sill after they steal a pie in O Brother.

He's talked in interviews about not being a sci fi person, but he did a lot of sci fi shows and films because that's where the animation industry was at the time. He didn't think his interests were commercial enough. If you look at Tomino's other series, you see the lack of Yas's influence in them.
