I forgot that camera images were flipped and became very concerned that my right eye looked droopy. After a few it registered that I was looking at my left eye & it always looks like that.

Surviving a stroke is panic that my eye is droopy & also being unconcerned that my eye is droopy.

The USDA is the fail safe for SNAP.

They have a contingency fund to ensure it’s covered in the event of a shutdown.

They’re refusing.

Grocery stores stepped up to try and help by offering discounts to any SNAP recipients and the USDA told them they had to stop.

Starvation as a policy choice.

The world continues to ignore Sudan and every day, things get worse. So much suffering met with silence.
Staggering atrocities in Sudan.

Following the mass slaughter of nearly 500 men, women, and children at a maternity hospital, UN officials say: "The situation is simply horrifying... El Fasher, already the scene of catastrophic levels of human suffering, has descended into an even darker hell."

$310,918.57.Over 11 thousand people have donated. Norway. Australia. Ireland. New Zealand. Egypt…and that’s just the emails I’ve been able to get to. All around the country there are coffee shops, restaurants, and cafe’s are offering SNAP Breakfast’s, SNAP lunches, and SNAP dinners. We’ve said it on every post - when the system fails us, it’s up to us to care of each other. And the world (yes, literally, the world) has done just that.

We are mobilizing and taking action as soon as possible to begin distributing the funds to the appropriate places, as well as continuing our SNAP Breakfast (where this all began) even after SNAP benefits are back. All details are on yesterday’s post on how we are doing that. Also - I want to take a moment to talk about those who have show up in the most incredible ways. Our volunteers did not sign up for this attention or traffic at our shop - but I am so insanely proud of the them going above and beyond. PLEASE, thank them when you see them. Also, our DM’s are flooded with thousands of messages. If we haven’t been able to respond to you yet, just know we are so, so thankful for your support.

Portland, please come eat. The world has you.-josh

Heretic Coffee has raised $86k so far to pay for free breakfasts for SNAP recipients
Heretic Coffee is a volunteer-run, nonprofit coffee shop that trains people to become baristas and coffee roasters.

The coffee shop has been soliciting donations for less than a week to pay for breakfast for people losing SNAP benefits from the federal government

My dog is 16 & a deep sleeper. This has resulted in quite a few panicked mornings for us.

it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

It's pretty fascinating seeing New Yorkers lose their minds (derogatory) about Mamdani.

His vision for NYC is better than Cuomo's.

Also: Cuomo's actions and decisions literally killed New Yorkers. How could anyone trust him to lead this city?

Sometimes it’s best not to respond and just leave things alone.

When people get all spun up saying, "Tr*mp is escalating. Things are about to get much worse!!!" No shit. He's using a predictable playbook. None of this should be a surprise. Which is why we organize to stop it. It's a race, y'all. Pick up the pace and we can win it.
Yesterday we kept hearing a weird noise. I hoped out wasn't a mouse, but it didn't really sound like a mouse scratching or chewing. Dan thought it might be a cricket, but it didn't really sound like that either.

Today we found the cause. A nuthatch had gotten in. It's outside and safe now
Co- living is a way to form a village and survive. They don't want us to survive.

I'm using Shawnee as an example, but it's not the only city with such laws.

Bring poor shouldn't be a crime

If you’re ok with vouchers being used for ski trips or piano lessons but not ok with SNAP benefits being used for pizza or cupcakes, it’s not the use of public money you have a problem with.

It’s that you think wealthy people deserve perks and poor people deserve to be poor.

And the pizza has some protein.
As I sit here watching the dogs all try to sit on Dan at the same time, I have 2 thoughts.

New YouGov poll say 8% of America participated in NO Kings. Media massively undercounts protests. Local media used an early Portland Police estimate for Portland of 40,000. Organizers of the downtown event said 65,000, and dozens of events were held elsewhere in the city and surrounding metro area.

Just so we’re clear…

SNAP isn’t saved yet. A judge gave the USDA until Monday to decide how or if benefits go out. They could be delayed, reduced, or partial. Nothing’s guaranteed.

Even if payments restart, states still have to reload cards and update systems, so delays are certain.
