Second: John R. Hall was _legendary_. It’s not just that cancer took him way too young, but sometimes, in a quiet moment, I still feel the weight of all the things this world lost by not having the privilege of more decades of his mind burning bright.

Okay, first off: hell yeah!

I really need to restart the IcculusMovies feed. I should just do it on my own web server so I don't have to keep migrating it to new social media platforms. :/

Saw a ton of movies while Olive was away at her school's fall camp: One Battle After Another (good!), The Smashing Machine (bad!), The Long Walk (okay), A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (loved more than I should have), and Good Boy (didn't love as much as I desperately wanted to).

I'm not saying this wasn't ICE, to be clear. But it's not inconceivable that white people that want to hurt brown people are thinking, hey, let's get some fake cop gear off Amazon and go grab people off the street.

I dunno.

I keep seeing these videos, and it's people with masks on, trying to snatch someone, and when there's any pushback at all, they literally flee. Neither cops nor military operate like this.

I guess I'm asking: is ICE actually this weak, or are these just dudes with masks trying to snatch people?

This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Community action works.

It kinda feels like dark wizardry that this works…but it works _really_ well!

I don't know if it's built-in to Emscripten's ports yet (you probably can't do `-s USE_SDL=3`), but you can build SDL3 from source with Emscripten's compiler and CMake, and link against it.

Or cheat, like I did with DirkSimple/SDL3 (Starting around the 1:18:00 point) youtu.be/V_MWXDr3Nu4?...

Something I wanted in SDL3 for a long time just landed; you can make the SDL window just take up the whole browser window in Emscripten now.

So instead of this:

icculus.org/~icculus/ems...

You can do this:

icculus.org/~icculus/ems...

Feels more friendly to browser games.

I probably encouraged The Algorithm to show me nothing but this by replying to DHH on Twitter, but afaict everyone over there is like "we're not gonna take it anymore, I'm renaming the git default branch to take the fight to those bastards," and I'm like
"you need to calm down."

Come on y'all, I posted this on Bluesky instead of Twitter because I assumed all the homoerotic vampire fans migrated here. :P

Also it’s super-weird to me that Anne Rice wrote Interview, and then decided _Lestat_ is the one we should be cheering for over like 10 more books.

Is this a good place to drop out of this series, or should I read more?

Plowed through the next two books: The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned, and I have to say, I always assumed that White Wolf borrowed elements from this series for Vampire: The Masquerade, but they borrowed _tons_.

So I reread Interview with the Vampire…my last reading was in 7th grade, and wow, I was clearly too young to understand the undertones in this book the first time around.

I’m becoming obsessed with articles written for an audience that sat still for 4 hours of TV and didn’t understand a moment of it. Can they actually read this article?

I know this was totally unavoidable in these circumstances, but I keep wondering if @alexwinter.com resents doing serious work while constantly being compared to Bill and Ted.

Maybe one is running with DOSBox in CGA mode, and one is EGA/VGA…or something?

Okay, glad to know I’m not delusional…but they’re both revision 88. Did they ship the same build with different Z-Machine revisions for the same platform?!? Now this is an actual mystery. :)
