Robert Duvall was a kind and gentle man. He had that crinkle in his smile that made you think he had some precious secret, all his own.
Rest well, Robert.

Today is Sylvie the Mini-Void's Gotcha Day. I brought this tiny, tiny cat home three years ago and I have smiled and laughed every day she has been in my life. She is not only the smallest cat I have ever seen in person, she is also the smartest, and she is endlessly entertaining company.

#Reading today: ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNICATION AND CONCILIATION by the talented Geo Takach. The book explores bringing arts-based research and Indigenous epistemology together to change how humans live on this one precious Earth. A fine complement to Geo's recent film Shih [Interconnectedness].

it’s breathtaking to see how this country is in decline by every possible metric
Devastated to learn that Univ of Texas at Austin is closing the American Studies dept. The years I spent there earning my PhD were formative, making me the teacher, thinker, and writer I am today. I've passed on what I learned at UT to thousands of students over the past 20 years. Just awful.

Men lose their Y chromosome as they age. Scientists thought it didn’t matter – but now we’re learning more
The Y chromosome doesn’t seem to do much except determine sex – but its loss in older men might be linked to heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s.

"most of this line of argument is so old that @pbump.com was still at WaPo debunking it in an earlier iteration"
Tom Homan’s statement on Face the Nation that “masks right now are for officer safety reasons” was an admission of the fundamental moral failing at the base of the Trump administration’s lawless actions.

If you knew what the administration is doing, it would not be sustainable.
The Trump admin argument that masks "are for officer safety reasons" is actually an admission
Tom Homan highlights how secrecy aims to block accountability, the immoral lawlessness at the core of the Trump administration. And, for paid subscribers: Closing my tabs.

We don't need to find heroes in our past presidents. We need to try to understand that tyranny has always been part of American freedom.

Elite women remain elusive still and this volume --fewer than 85 letters from MW during the presidency--is essential.
