People are poaching nerpa seals. A leading expert said this about it:
"It's not so bad. The situation could be worse," Grachev said. "Seals are clever and hunters are not."

It's like you're reading my mind. Goddamn PC agenda, those mouse weilding freaks!

Entirely read that as "Personal Computer agenda."

My favourite customer when I worked at the video shop was a terrificly awkward Russian woman. Every time she came in, she would ask for a recommendation for a film like Birth. We spent hours together, and I eventually learned there are no films like Birth.

Rewatched Birth. Love that movie. Here’s how you know it’s good: it’s in the strike zone of IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes for a good movie.
The Google result for Birth showing a 6.3 imdb and a 40% rotten tomato ranking

In every class I visit the kids all why I use fingerprints in my books. I ask them right back and this is what they suggested this week:

Because it's a circle
To make it beautiful
To show that it's real

They used to say "because they are all different". They still said that but first, "real"

"To show that someone has touched this", they said.
I've been a bit worried that this time around I'll find that the children want to use AI to make their pictures look "good". But they absolutely still want to think with their hands and make their mark. Of course they do.

That photo is not the one I was looking for. This is the one. Sorry.
Susan Sontag and her son David by Diane Arbus
ignatzhoch.bsky.social
You remembered that right! Sontag doesn't mention that prior to writing that she had commissioned Arbus to make a portrait of her and her son, which she took a dislike to. She then ends up dating the glossiest celebrity photographer of the 80s/90s, Annie Liebowitz. That's "dignity" I guess?

Ah, happy 88th anniversary of the day Oswald Mosley tried to sell fascism to Liverpudlians – and someone concussed him with a brick
A man in a suit stands at a microphone which has been mounted on the roof of a van. There are loudspeakers at his feet, and a building behind him. He has an arm raised, and is flinching as projectiles are hurled at him, because he's a fucking Nazi

This is a great portrait. Diane Arbus deserved an apology from Susan Sontag for the shit she talked in 'On Photography.'

B&W photo of two drag queens at the Stonewall march. The one on the left has a massive Carmen Miranda-style fruit salad headdress, and the one on the right has a sweet feather boa. They both look fabulous.

She would also be lecturing me on how the B52's are more punk than The Exploited. She would be right, but good god, it would be tiresome.

I am getting old and soft. Snotty 23 year old punk Judy would be laughing at me.

I have no time for the Beatles but I really like Yoko Ono and really really like how in love these two are.
