I think we should not underestimate the changes that started with the No Kings movement, the ground resistance against ICE - first in LA, then in Chicago, the Epstein/shutdown scandal - all of which have caused Trump's approval to go down.

Logician's note: in fact, if the president hadn't issued illegal orders, telling the members of military to defy the president's illegal orders wouldn't be "by definition illegal", but "by definition vacuously legal", since there would be zero cases to defy.

I feel like the whole "peace plan" conundrum hints at a complete inability by robber barons like Kushner or Witkoff to read the room.
They just wanted their spoils. They didn't think how making such a move *now* - right after the shutdown and Epstein debacle - would look politically.

So I guess what happened is that Witkoff and Kushner went around Rubio to get the "business deal" they struck with the Russians as an official US position, decided to leak it to make it final and then Rubio said "fuck off, this is not happening on my watch, it's on you to untangle this".

I must admit, I both underestimated how far gone and thus pliable Trump is *and* how charismatic and talented at winning people Mamdani is. Similar thing happened earlier with Zelensky, who shares a lot of those traits with Mamdani.
