Properly gendering someone isn't something we let them have as a treat if they're good. We really can't let it become conditional; that plays into the idea that it's optional in general.

Bernie is amazing! I've had the incredible good fortune to have met her a few times and she's absolutely lovely.
I learned this when Ms. Wagenblast emailed me after reading an interview I gave a while back. She’s awesome.
One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

My favorite is when I say something I remember because I was there for it, or just accurately describe my own life, and some 20 year old starts yelling at me that I’m a liar because that’s not what they heard from said influencers.
My favourite thing about the popular uptake of trans history is watching influencers repeat things they half remember hearing somewhere that aren’t true at all.

I’ve been sitting on this one for a while. This was first jotted down like back around March, but it didn’t feel like the right time. I wanted to pull the trigger on it in August, but a friend gave me some great advice to let it marinate for a more appropriate setting.
