A lot of indie bookstores will buy 1–3 copies of a book, especially graphic novels as a test to see how they sell. If they sell even 1–3 copies, it opens the door not just for a reorder of that book, but for more books in that format in general.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

While we're on the topic: I think more people should free themselves from the idea that every ship needs to be an "endgame" ship, whatever that means for them. Have a one-night stand or a casual fling with an NPC! Have them be exes! Happily Ever After is great too, but it's not the only option!

The sandbox is huge. I do what I want over in my corner, and if people like it? Awesome. If not? No big. The WoLG'rahasphere is so big these days that I kind of stay in my lane with friends and other people who do similar kind of dynamics as me instead of going hunting.
