Halifax could do this!
In neighbourhoods across Berlin, a quiet rebellion is unfolding in the form of Kiezblocks (or “neighbourhood blocks”). What began as a grassroots response to political inertia and rat-running cars has evolved into a compelling experiment in bottom-up urbanism coordinated by @ccitiesorg.bsky.social.🧵

As an aside, I would love to see some hyper-local political cartoons about our council!
Another week, another email to my district councilor. This isn't fun anymore!

Soooooo tired of writing to politicians who refuse to acknowledge they're part of the problem 🤦‍♀️
Just discovered that @nsgov.bsky.social is forcing everyone back to work in office full time. Bargaining employees were able to keep their work from home days, but as of April 2026, everyone will be in office full time.
This is so short-sighted.

Days like today I'm reminded of my junior high English teacher, Mr. Clancy. He taught us the word "triskaidekaphobia" and some of us never forgot it.

Gee, Billy, I walked up my street and saw cars parked in driveways. Guess we don't need to invest in roads for commuters or maybe parking downtown on a weekend could be $1000/hour.
Gillis is up. Will he support transit?

He said he went to the depot once and saw buses parked in the middle of the day. Will buying more buses actually help?
February 12, 2026 at 6:03 PM
So will there be improvements? More bus lanes? Because if Mayor Fillmorestreetswithcars has his way, there will be absolutely no advantage to use transit once the few bus lanes become just another space for cars 🙃

Governments at all levels, let people who are able to work from home, work from home.
Less emissions, less money spent on road maintenance, safer streets due to less cars, greater happiness and mental health because no unnecessary commute. Where's the drawback?
For HRM, we need to reduce emissions and adapt via HaliFACT which relies on implementing the IMP.

This means a significant modal shift away from driving for every trip to riding for more trips 🚍⛴️🚲🛴.

Well, my councilor- YET AGAIN- voted the opposite of the other peninsular councilors which makes no sense. So I wrote them and suggested they are part of the problem 🤷‍♀️
The only no votes were from Austin, Cleary, Morse, Steele, and White

Everyone else voted to get a staff report on how they can kill more people on Halifax streets.

Halifax ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
you don't know your neighbors because of cars

your city doesn't make enough in taxes because of cars

busses are slow because of cars

they won't build light rail because of cars

your city's air is awful because of cars

one of the leading causes of death and injury from accident: cars

If less people were on the roads, back ups would be less likely to grow and delay commutes.
If you hate being stuck in traffic or even seeing it, WRITE YOUR COUNCILOR, YOUR MLA, YOUR MP.
There are thousands of people who do not need to work from an office, and commute just to keep a seat warm.
It's backed up to Sackville.

Just get them to use transit from their homes. So they can see and understand what its like for the rest of us transit users. That task will be difficult for most of them.
In Halifax I propose we do the same for City councillors and mayor. Drop them in Burnside and have them get to City Hall with a $20 bill. (they can figure out the app if they want)
If I were Mayor of Ottawa, I would drive the @octranspo.com management team to Westboro, dump them on a random side street and give them 1 hour to get back to City Hall using only a Presto card

Whoever makes it back in time gets to keep their job

Taking the bus in Halifax is a time suck. Y'know what makes it take ever so less time, and less sucky? The few streets that have marked bus lanes. Andy is gonna ruin that itty bitty bright spot of using transit. That's our mayor Failmore 🙃
