Couple years ago I’d have never dreamed of seriously going abroad even for a few months and now here I am in Japan doing an exchange, in the same place my favorite Japanese authors studied. And I still get anxious about things I can’t control instead of enjoying myself. V human yet frustrating.

being a talkative hater is so funny bc people will think i like them when in reality i'm indifferent to them at best and just yapping for the sake of it

things are orderly. the pavements are wide. people obey traffic rules. i don't have to fear getting run over crossing the road. although a little distant, people don't seek out fights. the air is way cleaner. food is affordable. it's my 3rd day here and i'm already mourning the journey back home
the more i spend time in Japan less i wanna go back home

Chiitan loves all transgender people.
I've received a lot of criticism for expressing my support, but what's more important is that all transgender people live happy lives.
Blue Sky cannot display long posts, so please read this post if you'd like.
love you all 🤍

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

Turkey is slowly becoming more and more of an open air prison and I am not liking it. It's like we are invaded. Every decision they make is so humiliating on an international scale. People are burnt out and scared (rightfully so), they can't do anything against it. Heartbreaking

A new Ancient Greek web library: oxytone.xyz lets you highlight different parts of a text (verbs and cases, for example) and offers full lemmatization. You can also create flash card decks from any custom selection of text (via @Athanasius_45)

OK #academicsky, this is reason number ten million why you shouldn't go anywhere near ecocide-plagiarism machines. Don't add to the user stats. Don't create data-points that destroyers of knowledge use to raise venture capital. 1/2 💙📚 🗃
Turning online archives into resources for training data not only exploits and devalues the archived works, but also renders these archives literally unusable. Like all extractivist business models, #genAI ultimately threatens to destroy its own foundations. It's not generative, but destructive
Just went looking for something at the excellent Hagley Digital Archives, and was greeted by the message below.

They're being overrun by bots, as "AI systems increasingly target sites like ours to train machine learning models."

The web is being murdered. So aggravating.

My op-ed in the @latimes.com today:

"Monstrifying narratives have been undermining the possibility of a more inclusive body politic for millennia. But there’s an antidote to us-them messages of hate, fear and exclusion that claim that only a tiny minority of people are truly human." 1/2
🗃 #politics
Contributor: Why 'monstrify'? Look at who benefits when few are considered fully human
The category of 'human' is shrinking as politicians, tech bros and right-wing pundits divide the world into two groups: You're a cis-het white man, or you're a monster.
