Time to introduce a character from BRIDES IN THE DARK who I haven't talked about much yet. Meet Fay, Patrick's mother. Sweet-tempered with her son, but quiet and scheming and ruthless when she needs to be, Fay never shows her full hand to anybody.

Thanks to @faffuart.bsky.social for the artwork!

Batman, after foiling the Joker's plan to steal all the boner pills in Gotham: This city... just showed you... that it's full of people... ready to believe in wood.

I've gotten some new follows recently so it's time for a re-intro.

I write books, I edit anthologies, I repost fantasy art. I've got a body horror novella out on sub, and I've got 2 books coming soon.

It's September. Maybe it's a little colder. Maybe the days are a little shorter. Maybe you're spending more time indoors, cowering from the dark. There's no better time to curl up with 14 great horror stories, including the titular novelette "Bury Me Cold."

Have fun at Quail Ridge! Raleigh is my hometown, they’ll treat ya right.

THE UNWELCOME was my first major release (my first two books were a college project and an accidental novella) so while it's not really my debut, it holds a special place in my heart as my first... something. I dunno. It feels significant somehow.

Thanks for continuing to show it love!

yes the second chapter of my new novel features a three paragraph sequence of a man trying to piss on a sugar maple tree and mostly succeeding, I will not be taking questions at this time

What do you think Patrick said to her to make her blush like that? Comment your ideas below!

Thanks much to Timothy Halpin for this amazing rendering of Stella, one of the two romantic leads of my upcoming fantasy novella BRIDES IN THE DARK!

Stella usually has what the book calls a "mocking" personality, so seeing her so demure is a rarity.

If she (the book) could speak for herself, she would tell her reader:

…but oh to be spun of silk in your arms, to be the weaver of your desires, the blood tempting your fang, insatiable, oh to drink and never be sated of you

the great thing about meeting any animal is that more often than not they're perfectly willing to quote one of their iconic lines for you unprompted

5 Facts About BRIDES IN THE DARK:

1. I came up with the title first! It's a play on the TTRPG system "Blades in the Dark," and once I had a name like that, I challenged myself to come up with a story that suited it.

5. I wrote it in 26 days! I was obsessed with this story while I was writing it, and cranked out the first draft faster than I've ever written anything in my life.

A BONUS 6TH THING:

You can preorder it at The Crow Shoppe!

4. It's a fairy tale! (peep the subtitle) Not only does it draw from selkie myth, but also story archetypes like animal-as-bridegroom.
