Intro post! I'm Jae (formerly Jacqueline) Koyanagi, author of the sci-fantasy novel Ascension, among other things: jaekoyanagi.com

Currently, I'm deep into writing the first book of a character-driven romantic fantasy trilogy set in a lush, unusual world where divine magic abounds.
Someone is ready for a nap after playing with human friends we encountered on our morning walk.

And that's what I wish I encountered more often: sex (as a broad category) treated as another intimate, revealing aspect of character/story, not just a Romance Reward or Bonus or something Other. The varied forms of erotic intimacy let us express things that can't be expressed any other way. (2/4)

The three sapient peoples of my setting were created about 8000 years prior to the book by then-extant gods; they did not evolve. (1/2)
Hello, #DecemberWorldbuilders! Tell us about the creation of your people according to the in-world lore. Were they created by gods? Did they evolve from single-celled organisms? Maybe a bit of both? Maybe they don't know, and maybe they have stories about it. What are their creation myths?

Saw this the other day and my jaw dropped. I had no idea if this book would make it a few feet out the front door, let alone further. Whether you liked it or not, it means a great deal for so many to give my work a chance 💜

“The Visitor”. I want the title to be ambiguous. Whenever I see coyotes in the ravine I feel an invisible membrane of territory.

All right, I'll play. Seems like a fun way to connect with other writers. I'm Jae and I'll be focusing on Grisira and Deleyora, the couple in my romantic fantasy trilogy WIP. The title is still a secret but let's call it VFTDC.

Entirely non-human cast featuring a cross-species "monster" romance.
Welcome to #Smutcember, folks!

To start things off, introduce yourself and the work(s) or characters you plan on discussing this month. You can focus on one relationship or several, it's up to you!

They destroyed her home and most of the people in it in their ongoing effort to merge reality with an eldritch force. They also psychologically torture her in vivid, inescapable nightmares in an effort to wear her down so she'll give in to the eldritch infection haunting her. It's a lot.
Why is the antagonist of your MC their antagonist? What caused the friction? #WritingPrompt

I have a lot of thoughts on this design, but I’m SO HAPPY to have it done and to have been able to get some nice photos on what was most likely the last “warm” day of the year!!

Big write up on this on my other platforms, but it’s too much for Bsky’s limited space.

Anytime we pass this specific bush, Penelope stops to stare down into it, and will intermittently look at me until I look at the bush with her. "Do you see??" It's our daily ritual.

(It's likely there are lizards in there; she's obsessed with them.)

All right, time to take down this beholder zombie and then hunt down the alhoons.
No alhoons yet, but we did run across a beholder zombie. 😱 We paused mid-combat until time!
Today is the second day of our weekend this week, so it's almost time for D&D. Resuming where we left off, I'll be replying to a Sending from Ludinus Da'leth 😬 and then we're off to rid a myconid colony of a nearby group of alhoons.

Look you just have to make the cool weird shit that excites you. You must. In this world besieged by bland, scrubbed boring, computer slop, you must. Make the thing you’re embarrassed to make, the thing that feels “too much” because otherwise we get drowned in a sea of cowardly work made by a button

I know that completing the first draft of a novel feels like a mountain of work. Revising can feel tedious. But it’s where insights into what I’m doing happen, and those are exciting. Figuring out how to reshape the story into something even cooler is pro-level fun.

I know not every TV critic is familiar with the trappings of the romance genre, but I’m tired of the implication that sex can’t be an important plot driver for individual and shared character development.
but this? shut the fuck up. guess what, my man, gorgeous young 22 year olds like to fuck. And queer people deserve love stories that are sexy and horny. a "chaste kiss" please be for real.

Beasts of burden are prohibited, as are vehicles that run on fuel. Instead, they use walking machines that are magically empowered, as well as limited, short-distance teleportation via "transit stations."

Ships do exist, but only the foolish actually use them because of the marine leviathans. (1/2)
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

What methods of transportation do your characters usually use to get around?

Horses, ships (water, space, air), cars, walking, other?

Does transportation ever cause your characters difficulty?

Seconded. If you write and are vocally anti-LLM, I'm more inclined to check out your books

Conversely: if you both-sides "AI" or - god forbid - actively embrace or defend its use... you're off the TBR, permanently

Happy to say, most readers seem to feel the same
They say nothing good comes from hate, but when I see artists hating on AI, it makes me immediately like them and want to check out their work.
