As stated in my LB, my own personal belief is tht for an actor there are few things more difficult than trying to make a bad script work. Bad is difficult enough, but one empty of any true meaning? Anything to really say? And yet, what Wayans creates is magnificently substantive...

I finally saw "Him", I'm not as hard on it as others have been for ONE reason and one reason only...Marlon Wayans...wheeew boy. Imo it (Wayans performance) has been a bit undersold if you can believe it.

A ★★½ review of HIM (2025)
The movie is tableau as critique, and as such it doesn't have much to say about the sport it seems to want to indict. Tippings film presents some great ideas for a fierce critique on the entire cultur...

I love this idea, Touchstone lives in such an interesting intersection and I remember that logo popping up on a lot of my favorite films and (some not so much)

I'm finally starting this project to watch the entire Touchstone Pictures filmography (every film associated with the Disney label whether through production or distribution) from 1984-2016 & share my thoughts on each release in this thread. Follow along as I revisit the hits, misses & obscurities.

As a friend said , maybe I'm not getting work in the career field I'm used to, that I did just to forge headway into financial stability- because it is no longer for me, because it never was. And maybe I'm being led somewhere to some opportunity I need only believe in myself enough to grab!

So I don't know what's gonna come when it's gonna come, but I do know what I'm working on which a spirit of risk, more Yes's to challenges and fears, more No's to things that don't move me. More investment and belief in my own talents...

This time, one of the worst for me in so many ways, has been deeply illuminating. Because I've had to sit down, had to think, to observe, something I rarely got to do on the master wheel of trying to be. To be somewhat corny, I've been introduced to myself.

Ppl had to jostle, kick me out of it, @mattzollerseitz.bsky.social @812filmreviews.com , B.L.Panther, they would light an ignition try to get a fire, but when you're in it, there's really nothing any external forces can do, but they planted seeds of confidence still growing/ meeting the moment

When I moved onto writing same...I tried to pitch and when I got rejected or worse still so many non answers (really gives a mind like mines evil idle food to play with) and that settles into the fear and I stopped that..

I mean LA was part of that as well as a good chunk of my life became just trying to survive financially and pursuing acting started to feel like something I couldn't afford, but even if I could this would've been the next problem...

I'd do the work, and next thing you know you're on the other side, not only fin but thriving! But the mind is a funny thing, and I never remembered that part, just the fear, the consternation over whether I was really fit, got to a point I stopped auditioning all together...
jamellpelle.bsky.social
When I was acting, I would get to amped to audition for parts get them and immediately the chill would set in, and I would feel like I was being enveloped by water, swallowed, it felt too big, too vast for me and there'd be no way I could find my way to any shore ..

Unemployment is trash and the stigmatism behind it evil, but one aspect I might say is a net positive is the time I've had to reflect, and the way it's jerked me out of fear of accepting new challenges.

My next book will be a biography of Jack Nicholson, written as an epic story of the transformation of the movie industry and modern masculinity from the 1950s to the present, with Nicholson as the main character. The title: Leading Man.
New York Times bestselling author and film & TV critic at New York Magazine Matt Zoller Seitz's LEADING MAN, the definitive biography of Jack Nicholson, casting Nicholson as the complex main character in an era of American culture spanning six decades, while shining a light on the actor’s crucial role in shaping modern masculinity, both on and off the screen, based on new interviews and original reporting, to Amar Deol at Grand Central, in an exclusive submission, by Ethan Bassoff at WME.

Didn't get much over the week and the payment declined emails are flowing. Deep breaths, use Wi-Fi, keep at the searches, made some new resumes (some for things I wouldn't know the first thing about) time to take chances and to trust and believe tht one day I'll be on the other side of this

I don't know what was going on because this was Disney's product 😭 but yes I am glad to see it anywhere where a mass audience who didn't grow up with it can see it. Hopefully some sort of restoration is down the line

I'm so glad this is finally streaming! We're watching it either tonight or tomorrow at my house.

Language, much like performance is just one of those attributes in a film where if it's exceptional I can admittedly be blinded by their light. My goo goo ga ga eyes form a golden pupil and I just Oooooo and ahhhhh until the credits roll and then .."GREATEST MOVIE EVER" 😭

"One of the rare American films to savor the sounds of words" ...A-fucking-men. Very fortunate to see two of these types of films in Eggers The Lighthouse and this, outside of watching actors perform (part and parcel) this is my favorite thing to see/hear in movies
jamellpelle.bsky.social
Pryce's little bit of sauce here is quite seriously my favorite part of the film

You can see every bit of the drama that went on behind the kitchen of the making of this film, so it's a miracle the concoction comes out pretty fucking delicious. I loved it when I was a kid, I love it now ..

I mean if you can even just keep your head above water, the spoils are many, great weather, great sites, vast open city, lots of culture, but you know it just simply cost you a baby head and you have to guess the amount of money in a evil little Gnomes hand or some shit, only rich people have those
