I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

This would be the right decision, as there are better ways to cut energy bills that do not incentivise burning more gas. But after briefing a VAT cut on energy bills for so long, you have to ask what the hell is going on in there? www.ft.com/content/82f0...

I am frustrated that the deception and lies told by Farage and Johnson have cost the British public so much.

Howling in the blizzard of evidence.

Even though ETS2 is postponed to 2028, we keep striving for a fair and ambitious climate policy—we will continue talking with politicians and try to convince them that action is needed now.

The failure by politicians in power to state what is obvious to everyone paying attention is deeply disappointing.

This is existential for both sides.

Pick a side and act.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today that the fight against climate change was not against the fuels that cause it — only the pollution they emit.
Von der Leyen says EU is not fighting fossil fuels, only emissions
The comment could undermine European countries’ push at COP30 to move away from coal, oil and gas.

📣What do we want?

🗣️The political will for evidence-based policies that would reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by diverting money away from fossil fuels, like industrial carbon pricing, climate-aligned finance, and methane regulations!

📣When do we want it?

Great thread on the global carbon budget.

We have to get politicians to act to kill the fossil fuel industry.

I feel strangely optimistic that with decent carbon pricing …
How much CO₂ can the world emit while limiting global temperature rise?

Net ZERO is good. It creates higher paid jobs, benefits the economy and reduces pressure on energy bills.

Fossil fuel dominance has to be broken.

Great suggestions.

Also they could unfreeze the carbon floor price, optionally expanding coverage to other sectors. Set a price floor path to incentivise investment.

CCL UK estimated ~ £700 bn over 25 years. Similar to current estimates for the Greens policy.
Reports suggest Rachel Reeves is considering a pay per mile tax on electric vehicles in the budget.

Pay per mile will be needed, but it’s crucial the government doesn't undermine growing EV sales by introducing new taxation too soon.

Eloquent truth to power example from Canada.

I wonder what misinformation is cooked for the UK budget ?
We don't have a rebated carbon tax for them to lie about.

Maybe just tax EVs a bit more ? Who knows what they've lobbied for.

We get personal satisfaction in lobbying in the EU Parliament, Commission and Council for ambitious carbon pricing (tax) with payments to citizens that make most people OK or better off.
