Fast, fair and effective.
I admire the passion and impact of citizen based communication.
A group of ten local residents climbed 800 meters above the city and lit 450 torches to form the message: "No Kings." This is how Davos welcomed Trump.

Carrot first, is a good way to start. The carbon tax stick could be a winner too - the Scottish Climate Assembly were 77% in favour of Carbon Tax and Dividend.

EU ETS alignment is under negotiation + a process for adding ETS2

“EV sales in the UK are booming, up 24% in 2024 and accounting for almost one in four new cars sold."

This is a truly horrifying account of increasingly likely collapse of essential natural systems which would bring mass food shortages, price rises & global disorder. Commissioned from UK intelligence chiefs but scandalously suppressed by Govt, & sneaked out now while attention is elsewhere 👇

Fossil fuel companies know this.

AND They continue to lobby for governments to subsidise them with our taxes.

We need governments to act.
Tax carbon and pay people.

We need people not pollution.

It would also lead to governments making better decisions - argues @greenparty.org.uk MP @elliechowns.bsky.social on @hansardsociety.bsky.social podcast.

The fossil fuel industry lies and pays many others to lie on it's behalf. They are delaying a cleaner and cheaper world.

Ultimately the real economics of low cost energy will win.
Truly wild that the Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express & Daily Telegraph all covered false claims that net-zero will "cost" £7.6bn – or even £9tn – which assumes we could have free gas, free petrol, free petrol cars & free gas power plants if we scrapped net-zero

🧵A political/media guide to the "truth" about net-zero

1) Add up costs to install & run a net-zero energy system
2) Pretend fossil-fuelled alternatives wld be free
3) Do say "eco zealots are bankrupting us"
4) Don't say "free cars if we scrap net-zero" cos it sounds ridiculous
5) That's it!

NEW | More heat pumps could CUT EU reliance on fossil gas imports, but high electricity costs prove a major barrier.

We use the EN-ROADS tool in presentations and meetings to communicate the evidence that carbon pricing is an essential policy to address climate.

Most fun is getting the audience to select their favourite policies and showing the impact and only allowing carbon pricing later.
Wrote this while at COP30. You can make a global climate scenario like this yourself with En-ROADS. See what action is needed. See the climate impacts we can avoid.
Can we still limit warming to 1.5°C by the end of the century?

At #COP30, leaders are discussing this—but are we doing enough? @elliej.bsky.social breaks down a 1.5°C scenario using the #EnROADS Simulator, including what it would take and what’s at stake.👇 www.climateinteractive.org/blog/1-5degc...

In most modern democracies, the rise of new parties is seen as something natural and parliaments represent the public in all its diversity.

But our weird voting system can't handle more than two options.

People have moved on from the two-party era. Our voting system must follow.

Second graph shows the UK as an outlier, with lots of room for improvement.
Right now, electricity is often weighed down with taxes and levies that make it more expensive than fossil fuels, discouraging the switch to clean heating.

That imbalance isn’t inevitable. It’s a policy choice, and one that governments can change.

Some delightful graphs to reinforce the headline.
🚨OUT TODAY: “Tipping the balance: Cheaper electricity is needed to drive clean heating.”

Heat pumps are the backbone of clean energy in buildings: efficient, low-carbon, and clean. But they’ll only take off if households and businesses see clear financial benefits.
