I don't think I've ever in my adult life watched an hour of ABC commercials and all

But you best believe I'm going to find an antenna to tune in tomorrow to watch Jimmy Kimmel

Just got back from Europe, where gorgeous third spaces and generous public services abound. Americans are so terrified that The Undeserving might get something that they'd rather have nothing for anyone. Why THAT is the case is another question.

But probably racism.

PJM is the biggest and the dirtiest grid in the United States

It has 122 gigawatts of combined coal and gas capacity

China built 93 gigawatts of solar just in May of this year

I'm about 2 months China could do what will take us decades to accomplish
jrfhanger.bsky.social
Stunning!

China set a huge annual solar deployment record in 2023: ~216 GW

China smashed its huge 2023 solar record in 2024 by deploying 277 GW

Now China is crushing in 2025 its huge 2023 and 2024 solar deployment records.

China deployed 93 GW just in May & may deploy ~380 GW in 2025!

My statement on Donald Trump's threat to deport me and his praise for Eric Adams, who the President "helped out" of legal accountability.
The President of the United States just threatened to have me arrested, stripped of my citizenship, put in a detention camp and deported. Not because I have broken any law but because I will refuse to let ICE terrorize our city.

His statements don’t just represent an attack on our democracy but an attempt to send a message to every New Yorker who refuses to hide in the shadows: if you speak up, they will come for you. We will not accept this intimidation.

That Trump included praise for Eric Adams in his authoritarian threats is unsurprising, but highlights the urgency of bringing an end to this Mayor’s time in City Hall. At the very moment when MAGA Republicans are attempting to destroy the social safety net, kick millions of New Yorkers off of healthcare and enrich their billionaire donors at the expense of working families, it is a scandal that Eric Adams echoes this President’s division, distraction and hate.

Voters will resoundingly reject it in November.

There are only three political positions in America today

1) I like the fascism

2) I'll acquiesce to the fascism (reasons for this one vary: cowardice, access, denial, misguidedly thinking that acquiescence is savvy, etc)

3) I oppose the fascism

The rest is details

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me
In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

I hope that future generations watch period pieces about the aughts and react like I do to Mad Men and people smoking cigarettes everywhere. "You just burned fuel openly on the street? In your house? Where children play?"

Another question, does the demand line on these graphs include batteries charging as part of demand?

For example, right now renewables are generating 100% of CA energy demand, but that does not include batteries charging. As a result, the batteries are being charged in part by gas power

When Republican voters learn that the "Big Beautiful Bill" takes from the poor to give to the rich, they oppose it.

PJM serves twice as many people as the CA ISO, but today will have a peak energy demand more than four times greater than CA ISO.

Does anyone know what explains this? Are people in California really more than twice as efficient as people in the PJM states?

Do your solar generation totals include behind the meter residential/commercial solar?

ERCOT's Kristi Hobbs told the ERCOT Board the risk of energy emergencies is much lower this summer. We've added about 10,000 megawatts in a year "most of it from solar and batteries, that puts us in a better position." Indeed. 16% chance last summer and 0.48% this summer.

In case it is cathartic for anyone to read today, I'm sharing what the New York Times wrote in 2018 when Cuomo won his gubernatorial primary

Their pure glee at seeing a progressive challenger defeated is not hidden, but looks like we are getting the last laugh

Surprisingly effective things Zohran Mamdani ran on:
-free buses
-rent freeze
-halal cart for $8 instead of $10
-taxing the 1%
-no cost childcare
-city-owned grocery stores
-a Department Of Community Safety for mental health programs and crisis response
-building affordable housing
-why Cuomo sucks

What matters is that Cuomo and all the people who endorsed him are still going to claim they're the rightful heirs to the Democratic Party, how dare young people challenge them, all of that.

The difference is they're now just unaffiliated lunatics, banging on the windows. They're not the party.
