Labour MPs really need to stop pretending that Mandelson lied to the country—he didn’t. He lied to those tasked with vetting him and to a PM enthralled by his reputation.

Anyone familiar with his career trajectory could have predicted that appointment would be a disaster. #r4today

It was the Home Office that organised taxis for asylum seekers to travel to appointments across the country. It is shameful for the government to suggest, by omission, that this was some sort of encouraging perk.

Can we have @jessphillipsmp.bsky.social tell us how knowing, someone you are going to appoint as US Ambassador, maintained a friendship with a convicted sex offender is consistent with the government's strategy on tackling violence against women and girls?

The PM has said he new about Mandelson's continued friendship with convicted sex offender Epstein. Yet simultaneously he said his government was serious about tackling violence against women and girls. This is at best inconsistent.

The jury refused to convict the 6 who broke into Israel's Elbit factory that makes weapons to kill civilians in Gaza of any crime.

THIS is why the Government wants to get rid of jury trials.

Epstein wasn’t a “bad apple”
He didn’t “slip through the cracks”
He was the logical outcome of systems designed to protect rich, powerful men & discipline the rest.
Prisons didn’t stop him. Policing didn’t stop him. The state didn’t stop him.
He was protected & enabled by institutions of power.

The Epstein files show it's a thoroughly rotten system that treats people as resources to be owned and used.
This is the ruling class of capitalism as it's always been. It's not just the moral failings of a few individuals who just need replacing with good guys. The system creates these people.

It gets worse. Starmer's shortlist for US ambassador.

Mandelson and George Osborne, Mr corruption and Mr Austerity.

The voters can see it.

In Gorton and Denton, it's between the Greens and Reform, and we will win.

In this week's column I seek to explain Keir Starmer's flat refusal to change our electoral system, even though its gross unfairness could put Reform UK in power on <30% of the vote. The reasons, I believe, are deeply cynical and disturbing. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
If Reform ever wins power in Westminster, it will be because of Labour’s cowardice | George Monbiot
Starmer could improve our unfair electoral system to stop the hard right, but he won’t. All the party has left are threats about ‘splitting the vote’, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Journalists should be asking the Labour candidate at the Gorton & Denton byelection - and any senior Labour figures who turn up to campaign - whether they support these proposals or not.

If they are genuinely serious about rejecting Goodwin/Reform's racism and bigotry, there's only one answer..

How many months did it take Reform to

1. discover the two-child benefit cap?
2. pledge to abolish it?
3. pledge to abolish it for the right colour of people?
4. pledge to reintroduce it?
1. Interesting to see Reform abandon its flirtation with nativism / birth rate boosterism in favour of the policy of the last Tory government

2. “Starve a kid for a cheaper pint” is quite the policy. Be interested to see how that performed in focus groups (especially all male versus mixed).

Sorry James, but this is just nonsense. Mandelson freelanced in disgraceful and obnoxious ways. But his role in Gordon Brown's government was to pursue similarly undemocratic and destructive policies, just without the obvious corruption. See bsky.app/profile/geor...
More integrity in his little finger than his detractors have displayed in entire careers.
