Illness isn’t a subject in my WIP, but given their dispositions:

Micah would tough it out, perhaps to her own detriment, like a lot of things (esp. early in the story).

Steve is called a “whiner” by his ex-fiancée Naomi, so he doesn’t suffer well 😂

Excerpt from my litfic / women’s fiction WIP: Once the sun went down, the two sat back as the fireworks show began. Each burst of light illuminated the expansive lake into a mélange of reds, whites, and electric blues. Before Micah could hold herself back, she and Julian leaned in, their lips meeting each other, under the sparkle, the shimmer, the pomp, and the circumstance.

I build chemistry by framing scenes. The before, during & after builds chemistry (or a lack of it).

Early in my WIP, I juxtapose Micah’s utilitarian sex w/her husband Steve w/ a flashback of her passionate first time w/her ex-bf Finn, who was an attentive lover.

Micah lives with her husband Steve in a home gifted by her in-laws. However, for her, the gift is a curse, as her in-laws constantly invite themselves over, & her mother-in-law heaps on her petty criticisms of her body & home upkeep.

"Many of the businesses here are, uh.. niche. Residents of this community might enjoy them, but these are limited in their appeal and may not reflect the values of potential tourists who might otherwise want to visit." "You may feel that way about Marristone, but with all due respect, that's not my problem. I'm well aware of the auto industry and how it's affected our state. But right now, here in Marristone, our businesses are thriving. The township's commercial occupancy has hovered at around ninety-five percent for at least the past decade. That's pretty damn good."

Micah typically wears a warm color scheme. It looks good on her. But she likes her things & spaces in shades of purple. In Marristone, she rides a lavender bike. Her childhood bedroom is purple. And the color factors in later in the story significantly.

Snippet from my women’s fiction / litfic WIP: Once Julian left the room, Micah took out her phone and paired it with the radio, setting it to her favorite playlist. She poured the dark paint onto the metal tray, and dipped an unused brush, carefully removing the excess. With each firm stroke of the horsehair, she glistened the antique whitened walls anew. Against the backdrop of the grand, majestic lake, "Voyage to Atlantis" by the Isley Brothers flowed from the robust audio system. Losing herself in the groove, the surface gradually transformed with the labor of her hands. "I could watch you all day," Micah heard through the waves of her own soundtrack.

Snippet from my women’s fiction / litfic WIP: At the helm, he bore down into the waves and steered as much as he could in a southerly direction as the wind blew in from the west. The waves crashed uncontrollably into the boat like a washing machine. The deck splashed with water as she held onto the cool, slick railing, coils of her hair sticking to her face. A particularly high wave rose to meet Micah's gaze. She slid towards Julian's chair, holding on for dear life as it descended onto them. This must be it. Didn't expect to go out in a storm on Lake Superior, but it is what it is.

Micah will bring the Johnny Marzetti.

Steve, who swears he can’t cook, will prove it with crunchy spaghetti.

Savannah will bring berry crumble for dessert, and Julian’s got snacks & Faygo RedPop.

Ruth (Micah’s mom) believes she should have stayed to work things out with Steve. Cindy & Jim (in-laws) think her leaving shows she’s fallen from their religion.

I can’t complain. I started my draft in June but began writing in earnest in August with a goal of finishing it by the end of November.

I finished it one week into this month, and now I’m doing my first round of edits (cutting down a 99k manuscript).

As she parked, she caught a glimpse of him standing near the entrance, in a light grey polo shirt, khaki shorts, and sandals. Once she stepped out of her car, she gave herself a quick once-over — a floral off-white blouse, skinny jeans, and burgundy flats for a pop of color. She grabbed her tan satchel and walked toward her date.

"I thought you were going to eat early." He shook his head. "I was, but I got distracted, I guess. By the time I started dinner, you were almost home." As her teeth crunched the pasta, she looked away from her husband, whose self-satisfied grin evaporated. "What's wrong, honey?" She swallowed the shards of marinara-covered noodles. "Nothing." "I mean, what d'you think about dinner?" "It's not bad..." she trailed off as she attempted to pick up another portion of her meal with scraping tines.
