Hey there hi there ho there - we're doing intros?

I'm Jay. Long ago I was a Jungle Cruise skipper at Disneyland. Today I'm a gamedev at Respawn Entertainment.

I have 3 cats - Togepi, Moo, and Mothman.

My hobbies are various tech-y things, working on my tiki bar, and my N-Scale model railroad!

NEW: China is testing a megawatt-scale airborne wind system that captures stronger high-altitude winds, potentially producing up to 10× more energy with 40% less material and 30% lower costs. It could also be quickly deployed to supply emergency power after disasters.

Fun fact: doors in videogames are considered one of the hardest things to make (second to ladders)

Because what happens if the door opens and hits a guy or the door closes on someone or the door is locked or the player needs to turn the knob with a gun in their hand or the door opens too slowly or
ah and in animation they don't tell you about how often you're gonna have to animate people walking through doors and opening doors and closing doors and the doorknob is too low and you need the door separated from the doorframe on the bg file and and
years ago I made a tweet that was like "the thing they don't tell you about comics is how many god damn doorframes you have to draw" and i'm here to say: it continues. people opening doors. knocking on doors. stepping through doorframes. i'm still fucking drawing all of it. it never ends

But sometimes the drama is real though.

Like this time when I made a pen pal out of the flaming ruins of someone else's relationship

One of my absolute favourite attractions in the world is the Enchanted Tiki Room. I always wanted a tiki bird of my own, so I built one out of bits of wire, springs n strings! 🦜⚙️🎵

This is an old project, but I wanted to show him off again cos I'm still pretty proud of him :)

Feeds are a great way to discover new folks with like interests and break up your timeline
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts
I'd be happy with big non politics accounts.

New to the collection: a hand-made very small scale model of the island. Look at that little lost lagoon how cute!

My favorite games of each year this millennium:
2000: Star Wars Episode I: Racer
2001: Halo
2002: Kingdom Hearts
2003: KOTOR
2004: Halo 2
2005: Pokemon Emerald
2006: Star Wars: Empire at War
2007: Halo 3
2008: Mass Effect
2009: COD Modern Warfare 2
2010: Pokemon SoulSilver
Game of the Year wasn’t enough. To mark the quarter century, we found the best game in every year since 2000.

I was Jack Black's skipper on the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland.

He laughed at every joke, even the ones that weren't funny. I appreciated that.

I pretended to flirt with his wife and "sold" his son to the dancing natives, giving the kid a button that said "I'm Celebrating: I'm the sacrifice!"
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

I was watching this really cool anime last night.

Then I woke up and discovered that the anime I was watching doesn't actually exist and everything was a dream.

Now I'm pissed off because I was really into the plot

Are we getting DRAMA in my "daily adventures of a procgen wizard" account now???
The wizard unlocks a desk drawer and opens it, slowly, revealing a silk-wrapped dagger. He swallows and unwraps it, touching it with a single finger. The jewel in the pommel glows gently and he carefully rewraps it, then leans back in his chair with his eyes closed, taking slow, calming breaths.

FWIW, what I would say are the top 10 most influential games of the 2010s:

10. Hotline Miami
9. Getting Over It
8. Pokemon Go
7. Spider-Man
6. Destiny
5. PUBG
4. Slay the Spire
3. Skyrim
2. Overwatch
1. Breath of the Wild

(I do not count Minecraft as a 2010s game, it came out in 2009)
This came up while my wife was doing the NYT crossword, so I'm ~7 years late to this rant, but:

I'm not sure Wired magazine [of 7 years ago] understands the word "influential."

They're asserting that FORTNITE is more influential than both Minecraft and Dark Souls.
