Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Okay that was a fun day. Express Pass is clutch here, I read somewhere that some of the rides are engineered for eight-hour waits and I just can’t see how it’s even worth coming to a park for that. But not every express line here let you out close enough to the boarding area tbh.

So the How to Train Your Dragon coaster was probably most fun ride of the day. Also having never seen any of the movies, TIL it’s Viking-themed. Wolfman was also fun, even after a long rain delay (seriously why do people put parks in a storm-prone hellhole?)
