It’s about time I joined in with a Davis art share!

Hi I’m Jen & I work traditionally with pencil & paper, sometimes ink & watercolours happen. It’s a bit sporadic at the moment & I will get back to drawing soon, if the day job ever lets up
Photo showing two Mari Lwyd illustrations on a white drawing board. The one on the left is of a woman wearing a horse skull with ribbons & flower garland. Completed in ink, watercolour & coloured pencil. The drawing on the right is a simple ink illustration featuring a side profile of a woman & a horse skull, lots of stylised flowing hair & ribbons. Photo of an ink illustration completed using a 0.5 Staedtler fine liner, my fave pen for pointillism. The subject is a side profile of Darth Vader, behind him is a peony but wait…! That’s no peony! That’s a Death Star lurking in the middle of that flower!! Photo of a portrait completed in pencil on Bristol board. My favourite medium to work with. The portrait is of a covered face, only the nose, mouth & chin are visible due to the amount of tight curly hair. Have I mentioned that I love drawing hair? I do love drawing hair Photo of a pencil portrait on toned paper. The subject is of the best version of Sherlock Holmes, Jeremy Brett. His head is turned to look towards the viewer who’s treated to that infamous gaze of his. Completed in pencil & white pencil for highlights & still one of my favourite ‘fan art’ pieces as I did manage to capture his likeness

Hen and Wren.
Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, approximately 95 × 64 mm.
Drawing in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of a hen and a Wren regarding each other quizzically. The hen stands in a patch of wild grasses whilst the wren perches on a small, leafless shrub in front of her. The hen's comb and wattle are the only touch of red gouache. The drawing is finely wrought and intricate. The piece is roughly the size of a business card.

A new portrait of Monolophosaurus. The crest here is more voluminous than most reconstructions, exploring the idea that the underlying bone might have been anchoring a larger pneumatised casque.
#SciArt
A digital portrait of a large carnivorous dinosaur in a forest setting. The dinosaur has a large boney crest above its snout and eyes, and large folds of skin hanging around its neck and jaws. The dinosaur is mostly earthy brown, but with brighter blues and pinks around the eyes and throat.

I would have liked to have filmed the inking of this tiny wren and the shrub's very fine branches with this brush, but I needed to get especially close to the piece for this and it would have been too awkward.

1/2
Detail from a silhouette drawing in black ink of a tiny bird perched on a small, leafless shrub. The head of a hen just makes it into the crop, opposite the bird. The drawing is very fine and intricate. The detail shown is roughly comparable in size to two postage stamps, and is photographed with a penny and the traditional Chinese brush the piece was drawn with.

It's #buyastrangerabook day!

@seanjones.org has bought a copy of We the People : A History of the US Constitution by Jill Lepore for me to give to someone.

blurb in second image.

If you'd like it, get in touch.

UK only.
Front cover of the book. Blurb for the book.

On the 250th anniversary of America's founding - a landmark history of the US Constitution for a troubling new era. The US Constitution is among the oldest constitutions in the world - and one of the most difficult to amend. Although nearly twelve thousand amendments have been proposed since 1789, only twenty-seven have ever been ratified.

Tellingly, the Constitution has not been meaningfully amended since 1971. Without amendment, the risk of political violence rises. So does the risk of constitutional change by presidential power.

Leading Harvard historian Jill Lepore captures the stories of generations of ordinary people who have attempted everything from abolishing the Electoral College to guaranteeing environmental rights, hoping to mend their nation. Recounting the history of America through centuries of efforts to realize the promise of the Constitution, we witness how nearly all those bids have failed. We the People is the sweeping account of a struggle, arguing that the Constitution was never intended to be preserved, but was expected to be gradually altered.

At a time when the risk of political violence is all too real, it hints at the prospects for a better, amended America.

Drawing in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of a hen startled by a frog leaping out from a small cluster of ferns. The hen's comb and wattle are the only touch of red gouache.

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.
