I Am Not Your ‘Inmate’.

"I didn’t always detest this term," said Lawrence Bartley. "But hearing officers use it as an insult reminded me to call incarcerated people — including myself — by our names." Story via @themarshallproject.org. #2021

Not only is this artwork by Jill McDonald adorable, but "Look at all us exhibitionist puffins" should probably be the Bluesky motto.
The wonder of it!

Art block update: I’ve only actually bloody drawn something! For the first time in two months! It’s an admittedly very old pun, but still.

Use, and I cannot state this enough, libraries. UK/RoI authors get paid for library borrows. More than you'd think!
I’m just going to block anyone attempting to justify or excuse pirating books. Times are hard, yes, but absolutely NO ONE needs to steal books. Libraries exist. There are umpteen works legitimately in the public domain. You don’t need to take income from authors trying to scrape a living.

Orange has always been a peculiar little cat…
Video that I just bumped into while digging in my archives. Back in October 2017, Tiny Orange helped @tkingfisher.com sign bookplates for the @sofawolf.com Kickstarter release of Summer in Orcus.

Good job, cat!

Hey, I *like* my rustic pottery, okay
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Update: not only have the local authorities complained to the US Embassy, in writing, to get this addressed, it is also catalysing the local project to erect a monument for the black liberators in the area. Was always on a back burner, now a priority to honour all liberators to balance the scales.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

So I’m getting into my truck at the grocery store and a voice yells “Hey! Young lady!”

I am 48 so I did not turn, but then I see wild waving out a truck window. Old man straight off Duck Dynasty, full camo, beard to his sternum. He says “Your bumper sticker! Read books, punch Nazis?”

I've done it. Please consider joining me in pointing out how the problem is not the worthiness of specific applicants or groups of applicants, but the Home Office's own culture of derision and suspicion regarding *any* immigrant. www.gov.uk/government/c...

As the partner of an immigrant, this is very close to my heart. The pathways into this country have always been inhumane, but these proposed changes make them more so, relying on subjective, vague, and - frankly - Victorian notions such as 'character'. If you've got a minute, could you have a go?
For those of you in the UK, especially if you are a UK citizen, can you please take part in the consultation on changes to Indefinite Leave to Remain (Settlement) that were just proposed by the UK government. We need as many people as possible to reject these proposals. www.gov.uk/government/c...

If you won't do it for the love of me specifically, do it for those whose forking their life savings directly into the maw of the Home Office is apparently no longer enough.

I dunno about the rest of the world, but the US suburban middle/high school experience has so much to answer for. God, I was *terrified* to be caught out wearing the same anything in a week. Other kids would point it out and sneer. No one told us we were perpetuating class prejudice, or to stop it.
My other other conclusion is that "outfit recycling" should be the highest badge of honor in fashion and so we should STOP complimenting people for new clothes and START complimenting people who wear the same thing again.
